The aim of the study is to analyse nests of lexemes concerning religious cult. 140 nouns, adjectives and verbs were analysed. All were divided into seven semantic categories. The first part of the study presents data and its quantitative analysis. The authoress considers also origin of the lexemes and influence of the origin on formative activity of the word. In the part dedicated to characterisation of religious vocabulary she presents the process of penetration of religious terms into colloquial Polish. In the end she presents results of the study.

Currently in Russia, due to the change in the political system, there is more and more noticeable impact of the Orthodox Church on the life and language of the Russians. Biblical phraseology begins to permanently enter into the realm of contemporary Russian culture. It became common among the Orthodox Russians to cite the idiomatic expressions and quotations from the Bible. In the modern language of the Orthodox Christians the meanings of idiomatic units coincide with their meanings in the texts of Scripture, which, however, is not always synonymous with the dictionary meaning.

In recent times religious vocabulary often appears in contemporary Russian newspapers and magazines. Text writers use this vocabulary to achieve a special effect, for emphasis or color. Biblical phrases achieve new metaphorical meaning that has nothing to do with original words. They just become a source of irony, a negative assessment of the person or the situation described. The above process shows cultural decline in Russian speech and writing
