The paper presents the partial results of the PhD thesis on dance culture in the region of the East Slovakia - Zemplin. It deals with ecology of the circle and round dances as well as the influence of women's clothing on dance culture and dance etiquette. In a traditional dance culture gender differentiation was manifested by the way of participation in dances. It determined the dance rules, dance repertoire, the presence of particular types of dances in dancing order, as well as many other aspects of the folk dances. Therefore, investigation of women's dances in Zemplin is not limited to the dances themselves, but concerns broader aspects of dance culture in the context of rural social life.
