Thesis/objective – The article is a presentation of the significance and role of the bibliography. The recent changes in the concept and common understanding of bibliography are described. Research method – The literature of the field is analyzed, mostly foreign and Polish conference proceedings. Results and conclusions – Changes in the process of bibliography construction are heavily influenced by the development of Internet and globalization. The technological progress provides quick access to bibliographic databases and changes the contemporary functions of the bibliography.

Teza/cel artykułu – Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie znaczenia i roli bibliografii. Zaprezentowano przemiany związane z pojęciem i rozumieniem bibliografii, jakie zachodziły na przestrzeni lat. Metody badań – Zastosowano metodę analizy piśmiennictwa, materiałów z konferencji zagranicznych oraz polskich. Wyniki i wnioski – Na zmiany zachodzące w opracowaniu bibliografii decydujący wpływ miał rozwój Internetu oraz globalizacja. Postęp technologiczny umożliwia szybki dostęp do baz bibliograficznych i zmienia dotychczasowe funkcje bibliografii.
