Introduction: Death anxiety, fear of abundance, isolation, stigma of the disease and medication side effects are among the most common sources of anxiety and depression in patients with breast cancer. Purpose: To examine the possible relationship between religiosity, psychological resilience and depression on breast cancer patients. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional design was employed in this study which 152 breast cancer patients participated. Data were collected with the following instruments: Patient Health Questionnaire-2-item scale, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale 25 and Centrality of Religiosity Scale and a special designed sheet reporting social, demographic and clinical characteristics. Statistical analyses were conducted with the Statistical Package for the Social Science V25. Descriptive statistics such means, and frequencies were calculated and inferential statistics such correlation test, simple and multiple regression analysis were applied. Results: Approximately 1 in 3 patients suffered symptoms of depression while they were reporting moderate religiosity and resilience values. Based on the four-step mediation analysis religiosity was strongly associated with psychological resilience but it was not found to affect directly either depression, but psychological resilience can be a mediator between religiosity and depression. Conclusion: This study supports the notion thatreligiosity and spirituality can have a beneficial influence on health outcomes.

The study monitors individual approaches to dietary recommendations (consumption, addictive substances etc.) in various Christian churches and religious communities in the Czech Republic. Some religious groups define the dietary rules and recommendations officially, others do not – some churches adhere to the traditionalist concept (especially the Roman-Catholic church), some build on their own dogmatic principles (especially the non-conform churches) and some leave their believers more free to take their personal decision (especially traditional non-Catholic churches). The diversity in the features of these restrictions (terms, form, etc.) is also important, i.e. whether the church representatives and co-believers consider the recommendations to be binding, recommended, or expected. With regards to the nature thereof, the believers are offered a larger or smaller space for their own adaptations. Based on her interviews with particular believers, the author comes to a conclusion that despite obvious perception of circumscribed limits, the crucial aspect consists in an individual approach in dependence on personal piousness as well as every-day situations. However, it emerges that most believers understand a form of self-denial as an important part of religiosity (in the case that no restrictions are defined, or these restrictions are insufficient from the believer´s point of view). The demands for own discomfort or modesty are, however, very different in dependence on subjective limits (individual adaptations and believers´ approaches).

The aim of our contribution is to take part in the discussion and point at the importance of spirituality in Roma communities. In our work we focus on the need of spirituality at Roma minority in Slovakia. We state an example from the past – work of the priest in the village of Jarabina. It is religiosity what is closely connected with spirituality – reason able religiosity helps the inclusion of Romanies into society, irrational causes more intensive exclusion.

There have been remarkable (r)evolutions in the Nigerian gospel music industry for the past decades. These revolutions have led to the emergence and survival of various modern and controversial musical cultures/traditions, modes and performances including worldliness and paganism in the industry. In view of these relatively nefarious musical cultures, a good number of scholars and observers tend to arguably redefine and (re)brand Christian communication in general and Nigerian gospel music in particular. It is in following this premise that this paper examines the phenomenon of religiosity and worldliness in the Nigerian gospel music industry. Based on observations and secondary data (literary sources), the paper argues that the Nigerian gospel music industry is just a vivid reflection of the country’s gloomy socio-religious landscape, characterized by the emergence/prevalence of fake ministers and various ubiquitous instrumentalities that perpetrate spiritual bareness in the country. Aspects of religiosity observed in some Nigerian gospel songs include controversial rhythms, imitations/adaptations of worldly songs, lyrical emphasis on prosperity (materialism, fame and earthly glories) at the detriment of spirituality/salvation, gospel artists being associated with sex scandals and occult practices.

The following text is based on the outcomes of a long-term field research carried out in eastern Slovakia, and it focuses on the character and specifics of religiosity of the Romany settlements inhabitants. One of the characteristic features of this religiosity is the fact that its core is still based on magical practices while Christianity only covers it on the surface. We will attempt to document this feature by examining a particular example of a chosen institution, this institution being the ritual procedure of the oath at the cross. Even though this practice is commonly known and frequently mentioned in literature, we are of the opinion that most references have so far been of the character of a mere record without an attempt to comprehend its inner nature. Thus, our objective is to explore the intrinsic logic of this institution, which may moreover be helpful in terms of illuminating the whole of the religious system of the Romany settlements inhabitants because in many aspects it may be treated as a model example of a magical procedure concealed under the garb of Christianity. Consequently, this concrete consideration may be generally valid on the structural level.

This text uses empirical research to investigate the religiosity of youth attending educational institutions in Białystok. First, we discuss how religiousness is perceived by our respondents. In drawing this general picture, we relied on two indicators: self-declaration of faith and declared religious practices. Keeping in mind that researching these two issues cannot yield an exhaustive diagnosis of youth religiousness, in the latter part of the text the authors juxtapose the two parameters mentioned above against the information collected from the respondents on the values that they appreciate the most, their opinions on selected moral norms and their views on the most frequently practiced risk behaviors. Complementing the primary picture and perception of religiosity with the information from the supplementary questions allows for a more insightful assessment of the status of religiosity in the studied pre-adult generation, also enabling a reflection on their axiological systems.

Despite being the object of research conducted by military historians, so far military normative acts have found little interest as a historical source for the study of the changes of piety and religiosity among soldiers. The studies can relate to three clearly defined phenomena such as the institution of military chaplains, religious ceremonies and the spread of the concept of God. Thus, this article constitutes an attempt to present the methodological assumptions allowing to extract from the sources – military records – more information than just data relating to the contents formally connoted by the legal regulations. The basis of the presented analysis constitutes the research devoted to the study of the development of the Polish and Lithuanian military laws till the middle of the 17ᵗʰ century.

Podstawę zaprezentowanych analiz stanowią badania poświęcone rozwojowi polskich i litewskich praw wojskowych w okresie do połowy XVII wieku.

: The study responds to the lack of theological reflection on prison spiritual ministry in Czechia. Although the Czech Republic has a well‑developed ecumenical prison ministry of chaplains, its operations are primarily of interest in the sociology of religion and penitentiary sociology. The reflection in pastoral or practical theology is significantly weaker. Thus, this study aims to describe the essential elements for the first theological conceptualisation of the prison spiritual ministry in the Czech Republic. It is based on the analysis of the current discourse in the sociology of religion, penitentiary sociology, pastoral theology, and partially other helping professions. Such an analysis serves as the basis for pastoral‑theological evaluation and hermeneutics. The study attempts to draw the core lines for the possible pastoral conceptualisation of the Czech prison spiritual ministry of chaplains with a background in Christian churches.
