The paper presents the comparison of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) usage in Slovenian micro enterprises, using data derived from two studies carried out in years 1999 and 2009. Data for the studies were collected via structured interviews with owners or top managers of micro enterprises. We compared hardware and software equipment, business properties, characteristics of the interviewees and their impact on the successful use of ICT. The results show considerable changes in the ICT equipment, but that does not reflect in a better use of software compared to a decade ago. Key factors of successful use of ICT remain the same. The investment in ICT depends on owners' decisions and the most important factors are the owners' formal education and their skills and knowledge in ICT field. It was indicated that in recent years the investment of education in ICT field for both groups, owners and employees, was considerable lowered.

Basic concepts of research on multicultural education in the USA are described in this article. These concepts can be used as instruments for the description of the situation in this research area in the the Czech pedagogical background. Domestic research on multicultural education lacks clear aims, contents and methods. Definition of these attributes is not possible without formulation of basic approach to research on multicultural education. In the paper, two possible basic approaches are described, based on these approaches we can do research on multicultural education. Deterministic and indeterministic approaches are based on ideological concepts of ethnocentrism and cultural relativism. Two paradigms from USA: assimilation and pluralism, can be inspirational for Czech research community.

This paper aims to implement key concepts (naturalized epistemology, principle of charity), which have been developed as a part of the philosophy of language (D. Davidson, W. V. O. Quine), into the methodology of cultural anthropology based on interpretative approach research regarding social actors / examining body. The first part will be focused on explanation of thought experiments radical interpretation in a frame of analytic philosophy of language discussion. The purpose of a second part will be to deal with transfer of previously discussed knowledge into the methodology of cultural anthropology. Using the examples from ethnographical research, the violation of the principle of charity will be demonstrated as well as negative consequences of flawed methodological approach in interpretation of verbal and conative behavior of social actors.

The choice of a work career is one of the most important events in a person’s life course and typically involves secondary socialization and identification with role models. This paper is concerned with the crucial role of my PhD dissertation supervisor at McMaster University, Dr. Billy Shaffir, in my choice of an academic career. I highlight and celebrate how, through the guidance of Dr. Shaffir, I experienced “immersive socialization” into field research and happily converted from an intended business career to an academic career.

The article addresses the issue of consumer preferences for brands of coffee in Poland (for ground coffee, instant coffee, coffee beans and instant cappuccino). The main source of the study is the results of primary research conducted using a structured interview (CAPI – Computer Assisted Personal Interview) on a nationwide sample of 800 coffee consumers. The results of the research which have been included in the article indicate, among others, ongoing changes in the preferences of Polish consumers regarding their choice of coffee brands. The results show that brands offered by small, local manufacturers are of little significance on a national level in terms of brand awareness, consumption, and consequently sales. Branded products offered by large corporations such as Jacobs, Nescafe, Lavazza and Tchibo play a major role in the coffee market in Poland.

Joining the university context in the middle of the 19th century, Philology served as a comprehensive basis for what nowadays is meant by literary and linguistic studies. Depending on the specialization tendency that would settle down in the academic context (with regard to either the formative offer or the foundation of various research fields), each of these areas followed separate or even divergent paths, losing, to a great extent, the contact with its initial basis. Despite this state of affairs, Philology has displayed a strong capacity of resistance, maintaining its traditional dimension active or going through metamorphoses that resulted from the incorporation of new technologies, as well as from the epistemological adjustment that enabled it to overcome its first positivist stages. Trying to find a new place inside the general framework of Social Sciences and Humanities, literary studies need to recover its order and credibility, two factors that the new face of Philology can inspire. The present study aims at reconstructing the most recent trajectory undergone by this field of research and education, by identifying a space of reconnection that already seems to be adequate and beneficial.

The research of the stereotyping of Muslims and its consequences in the context of the Slovak Republic is highly topical and necessary. The complexity of this research is influenced by the fact that in Slovakia we do not yet have a proven research tradition in this field and there is also a lack of empirical research that would deal with this issue. A so-called mixed research strategy consisting of a combination of qualitative and quantitative research was used for our research purposes. In the qualitative part, we used the method of group interviews, through which we identify the most important sources of information from which respondents learn the most about Islam and topics that reflect the most about Islam in the media. In the quantitative part, an evaluation of the media presentation of Islam is carried out by means of a questionnaire, which is carried out in a research group of 110 respondents. The aim is to obtain, describe and analyse the image of Islam in contemporary media; it is exclusively a research of the media-mediated experience of respondents with Islam. The interpretation of the research puts the findings into a broader context of the issue, presents the most significant examples and consequences of the stereotyping of Muslims in the media and suggests perspectives for the greater inclusion of Muslims despite their cultural or religious differences from the majority population. The research was conducted between the months of April and September 2019.

This article concerns the situations experienced by the researcher in one of the sensitive research groups-hospice patients. The article is based on the author’s experiences in three studies in Poland-94 in-depth interviews and observations in inpatient and home care hospices. Through the seven presented categories the author faced during the interviews, she analyzes the dilemmas of conducting qualitative research from a practical perspective. During studies, we learn about our preferences, sometimes defining ourselves on one of the sides-becoming a quantitative or qualitative researcher, thus deciding further scientific paths. Conducting qualitative research requires specific activities, including knowledge of the literature, selection of the proper method, and analysis of the research group (Silverman 2012). These principles turn out to be only the beginning of the process in which we intuitively, through trial and error, pave the way to deal with demanding situations, previously inexperienced emotions, coordination, and technical and ethical problems. Some studies require special preparation, particularly considering the specificity of certain research groups, such as hospice patients, who will face the dying process soon.

The objective of this paper is to identify macroeconomic shocks in the euro area and to define their degree of similarity. The method of research is the analysis of time series of change in real GDP and deflator GDP. The study covers the period 1999-2013. The similarity of shocks is different in the euro area. Demand shocks were, in most ca-ses, symmetrical, while supply shocks - asymmetrical. Small open economies react more strongly to shocks. As a result of relatively high concordance of shocks, there are large differences in the response of real GDP and prices to shocks in the euro area.

Competitiveness involves a variety of factors, however recently special attention has been paid to innovative solutions that have become crucial for the development of firms and economies. Due to the fact that there are many market failures identifi ed within research and development activities, many theorists, entrepreneurs and politicians accept granting R&D&I state aid to companies assuming that it should simultaneously contribute to the enhancement of innovation and, consequently, competitiveness of the EU economy. The paper is aimed at assessing the focus of state aid policy on research, development and innovation in the light of theory and practice (based on the recent experience). To this end we will analyse theoretical arguments for interventions supporting R&D activities, legal bases and criteria of admissibility for state aid for R&D&I, as well as, importance of R&D&I public aid in the EU Member States. The analysis of legal changes in conditions of admissibility of aid granted for research, development and innovation confirms that such aid belongs to the concept of improved economic competitiveness, also of the EU industry. However, like any government intervention, the aid should target only enterprises with real development potential and only when they are faced with market failures. As regards a position of state aid to R&D&I in public spending, remarkably, in the times of economic crisis more developed countries with higher GDP engaged more public budget resources into R&D&I activities.

Establishment of the Russian state at the turn of 1991-1992 was associated with large political changes. Those changes can be described as revolutionary. Within the economic sphere, they meant the transformation of the centrally planned economy with a common property of the state to a market economy. It was assumed to follow the pro¬cess of degovernmentalization of economy as quickly as possible, primarily by means of privatization of state enterprises. This article will attempt to present the process of privatization of state property in Russia in the period 1992-2011. Analysis of this process will be based on a study of changes in the ownership structure of the economy, the structure of employment and the impact of privatization revenues to the state budget.
