The article describes vocabulary concerning semantic field POTATO. The examples illustrate diversity of terms in Wielkopolska - (detailed description of the forms in the language of selected villages in eastern, central, southern and western parts of the region - Adamów, Baranówko i Sowinki, Bukówiec Górny, Dabrówka Wielkopolska). The processes of unification of forms were observed and their connection with social and economic changes and different age of the respondents was indicated.

The paper discusses the Czech Aphorisms of Jan Sobotka. Czech aphorist in his compositions misses values, which are considered to be the most important in the contemporary world. That is why he seeks the way through which one could understand surrounding him reality and follow the rules, which guarantee proper functioning of individual in this reality. In addition, he creates human rules according to nature's principles: to survive. He also seeks to excuse a man's behaviour, which depends on a situation in which he is, although it seems that it is rather ironic approach to the problem. Searching wisdom of life became a reason for Jan Sobotka to describe a typical for him image of the world in the distorting mirror (Eulenspiegel), which corresponds to didactic nature of aphorism (although nowadays in aphorisms that nature is hidden) and principle: let us learn on others' mistakes, because learning on our own costs us much.

The article reveals lexical and word building categories of quantity of adjectival lexis. They are expressed and opposed by word building means: ending - endless, paired - unpaired, exact - inexact, the indefinite big - the indefinite little, embodied - mataphorized, present - absent. Some suffixes and prefixes, as well as numerous numeral and adjectival bases within composites are the main means to differentiate quantity. Borrowed bases, which are means to express quantity, supplement numbers of words with original bases; they are primarily used in terminology.

The study deals with the specific context of the Czech poetry in the period of the mid-1890´s when the aesthetical and artistic conceptions of decadence as one of the progressive modernistic movements are established. This is the frame in which Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic and Arnošt Procházka published their early collections of poems. The aim of our analyses is to study and consider to which extent the Czech decadent poetry of the mid-1890´s represents inovations in artistic methods, topics, themes as a kind of diference and otherness in a general process of decanonization comparable to the European movement of the fin de siècle modernism.

The paper presents the picture of pain in Polish, as represented by numerous expressions figuring the lexeme bol 'pain'. The expressions were documented either in dictionaries of Polish or in the PWN Corpus of Polish. The main focus is on conceptual metonymies and metaphors used by speakers and writers of Polish to think and talk about pain. It discusses the way they understand experiencing pain, what conceptual schemata and comparisons they invoke. Experiencing physical pain is shown according to the following profiles: 1) the pain itself as a process; 2) pain as a subject-phenomenon; 3) the feeling of pain by the subject-experiencer; 3) the localization of the pain; 4) the actions undertaken by the subject-experiencer to alleviate or eliminate pain; 6) the means used by the subject-experiencer to alleviate and/or eliminate pain. The final part of the paper discusses perspectives on contrastive research which include both a detailed analysis of lexemes pertaining to the semantic field of 'pain' in different languages and the comparison of the ways in which the pain is conceptualized in the languages analyzed.
