The author analyses the evolution of reception of the Slavic and non- Slavic peoples in the mentality of the Galician inhabitants in the 19th – 20th century. The article deals with the problems of the ethnic interrelation and stereotypes in the Austrian, Polish, Soviet and Post-Soviet Ukrainian Galicia as the specific East-European territory on the crossroads of the different cultures. The paper also examines the genesis of the ethnic stereotypes in this region in the cultural context of the Slavia Orthodoxa, Slavia Latina and Slavia Unita.

The contribution is a result of author’s interest in the legacy of Russian Narodism and, within its framework, the works of Petr Lavrovich Lavrov (1823 – 1900). The contribution analyses that part of Lavrov’s extensive work which could be labelled as philosophy of history. The selected part of Lavrov’s works are a result of his long-term interest and effort to interconnect philosophical reflections with the real needs of political practice in the Russian context of the second half of the 19th century. Lavrov´s views can be seen as a critical reflection of values created by the Byzantine and Slavic spirituality. Faith is not accepted as faith in God. It is regarded as a strong belief which can lead to political action and social change. It is a belief in goals created by man. This represents the fundament for the creation of a better world. In that respect, one can identify Lavrov’s distinctive reflections concerning the values and actions based on these values. Actions, based on certain values, and the process of realisation of shared or accepted value frameworks, represent, in Lavrov’s understanding, the basis, or the starting point for a definition of man and (as an) individual, as an acting individual.

The record test of the Byzantine-rite priests has special places among them. Testing took place within the canonical visitation, when the Latin Bishop visited not only Roman Catholic priests, but also Greek Catholic presbyters and Protestant pastors. Scrutiny revealed the truth about the theological and ecclesiastical level and personal discipline. Presbyters were uneducated and did not know the theological doctrine of their religious beliefs were the simple folk level. This study shows the context of the document and its significance. Part of the study is a faithful transcription of the Latin document and its Slovak translation.

The article suggests a semantic reconstruction of the elements of traditional weaving craft (tools, mechanisms, devices and their parts, raw materials etc.) represented in phrasemes, proverbs and sayings in the Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Slovak, and, partly, Czech languages in ethnolinguistic dimension. The units of secondary nomination to denote weaving realis are considered from the point of view of their figurative categorization, structural and semantic typology, directions and processes of semantic dynamics, and conceptualization of weaving terminology, which are reflected, first of all, in dialectal phraseology, similes and paroemias in different local traditions. In the article the emphasis is laid on the symbolic function of the objects of material culture, and on the connected with them pragmatic senses, everyday-life and magic folkways, beliefs (calendar paroemias, symbolic function of chrononyms).
