For over 250 years, Old Slavonic has been an attractive subject for linguists, literary scientists, historians, theologians and all lovers of Old Slavonic literature, culture, scripts and liturgy not only in Slavonic but also non-Slavonic countries. The birth of Slavonic and Paleo-Slavonic studies is closely connected to the beginnings of national revival in Slavonic countries in the second half of the 18th century. It was a period of searching for one’s Slavonic and Christian roots, history, rulers and vladykas, the land and language of their ancestors, i.e. their place in the family of European and Christian nations.

The presented study introduces the exorcism of the Humenné Anthology of Sermons from the 17th century. It is an Old Church Slavonic text written in Cyrillic; so far its origin or any possible models were unknown. This study presents new findings concerning the text and in parallel introduces another Cyrillic text, preceeding in time, together with its Greek original; this latter exorcism could inspire the writer of the first one. The matter of exorcism and especially of an exorcist is described in detail as well.

Theoretical basics of typological classification of the phonological systems of Slavonic languages were based by A. Isačenko at the end of thirties of 20th century. It is a pity that in the next years his ideas were not developed, which was caused maybe by the fact that phonological typology was always marginal interest for linguists, while dominant position in language typology had morphological typology. Our confrontational description is concentrated on similar analyses of relations between vocalic and consonant phonemes of the Serbian and Croatian languages but is based on broader Slavonic background. In our text we are continuing our research work devoted to confrontational study of the phonological systems of standard Slovak, Czech, Polish, Upper Sorbian, Lower Sorbian, Byelorussian, Ukrainian, Russian and Bulgarian languages.

Excavation works to place gas pipelines were performed between the village Ždaňa and Skároš. During the works in the position of Vyšné pole object 1 was disrupted – an earth-house from which southern part of a potentially oval shape and a disrupted heating equipment were revealed. A shard material, fragments of grindstone, daub and animal bones were obtained from the filling. The ceramics from Ždaňa has features which rank it to the Prague type. The production technology of modelling containers was in essence identical with the findings in other sites featuring the occurrence of the Prague type ceramics of an archaic form and falling, like in Ždaňa, to the second third of the 6th century. In a more detailed treatise on the earliest Slavonic settlement in eastern Slovakia as a part of the upper Tisza River basin we have pointed to the necessity of resolving certain substantial problems (genesis, theory of the autochthonous origin, time and direction of the arrival of Slavs in the northern part of the Carpathian Valley), or partial questions of economic and spiritual life of the newly-arrived Slavonic population. The exploration of early Slavonic objects and finds, so far only in the Košická kotlina (Ždaňa, Nižná Myšľa), has shown that also eastern Slovakia took part in the processes of Slavs´ settling down in the northern part of the Carpathian Valley after the year 470, though still before the arrival of the Avars.
