In the article, the theoretical origins of environmental sociology in a classic sociological theory are examined. The basic stages of genesis of eco-sociological theory are analyzed in detail, particularly such directions in sociology, as social Darwinism, geographical school, as well as K. Marx's, E. Durkheim's, and M. Weber's views on the interrelations between society and its natural environment. Special attention is paid to socio-ecological conception of Chicago school of Urban sociology, Human ecology, Duncan–Schnore's Ecological complex theory. The disparateness of conceptual content of notions of social ecology and sociology of natural environment is also ascertained in the article. Whereas a social context and theoretical origins of environmental sociology in the West and in the former USSR appreciably differ, the features of institutionalization of Western and (Post-) Soviet Environmental Sociology are examined at length.

The article is a continuation of reflections on the subject of the means of constructing onomastic discourse, and in particular, the means of metaphorizing and illustrating the primary subject of description in onomastics: what is a proper name? The author places her deliberations in the framework of postpositivistic philosophy, which understands the science as a textualizing practice conditioned by extrasubstantial factors, among others, the local and historically variable socio-cultural context. The authoress indicates several means of metaphorizing proper names, which can be placed in two groups: the proper name as an inanimate object and as an animate object. At the same time she shows in what way the choice of them in onomastic text is conditioned by a different means of understanding the sense of onomastics as a discipline of linguistics and of the role played by the onomast therein.

Environmental preference is generally defined as the inverse function, which causes conflict and insecurity in some surroundings. In the environmental psychology, environmental preference is defined as a complex process influenced by both personality factors and objective characteristics of the environment that could be examined as a function of different levels of environmental quality across its coherence, legibility, mystery, complexity and personal relevance (familiarity). In this paper the authors analyse the specifics of personally important places of Slovak adolescents. The sample consisted of 436 students from all graduation classes of 8 regions in Slovakia. Qualitative analysis of graduation essays 'The place where I always love to return' in Slovak language identified 11 categories of personally significant places. Subsequent statistical analysis showed significant differences in the personally important places with regard to study profiling of graduates (human, technical, general, scientific, artistic and commercial) and also depending on the individual regions of Slovakia. The research findings confirm the importance of the place concept and place attachment in shaping identity in the context of globalization.
