Modern technologies are more and more becoming an inherent part of everyday life of people and their communication. In an equal extent, they affect sociological research aimed at exploring social reality. New means of communication are now a natural part of sociological research. Today, practices such as the use or the Internet to collect on-line data, making audio and video recordings of various types of observations, recording individual or group interviews, production of visual data, and other processes supported by technology have become a commonplace; not to mention qualitative data processing and analysis. However, general accessibility of modern technologies and their relative ease of use entice to underestimate the examination of validity and reliability of these methods in the context of the realization of research projects. This paper highlights some of the areas in which the use of on-line technologies must be subject to more detailed examination, in order to ensure validity of results. The paper aims to trigger academic discussion.
