The article presents a part of so far unpublished correspondence of a Polish poet and traveller Tomasz Kajetan Wegierski with the King Stanislaw August Poniatowski. Wegierski, absent from the country for a few years, wanted to come back, but the King either did not respond to his letters, or replied frigidly to his requests and gave any evidence of favour which might allow Wegierski to save his face.
