Staszic was one of the leaders of alterations that were observed in the period of autonomy of the Kingdom of Poland (1815 - 1830) in the educated society circles' mentality, and in the process of laying the foundations of modern Poland. He acted as a promotor and modernizer of the local industry, an initiator of the Polish engineering schools, and a president of Warsaw Society of the Friends of Sciences that was engaged in studying and using local resources.
