The article analyses, on the basis of Japanese and American governmental documents and using empirical, quantitative and comparative methods, the activities carried out by the KGB in Japan with the use of its legal residences in the years 1954-1991. Apart from presenting their number and location, as well as the evolution of the number of KGB personnel and defining their proportion to analogous GRU employees, as well as to all employees of various official USSR representations, it also presents the basic directions of the committee's activities in the ‘blooming cherry country’ and the scale of penetration of Japanese institutions through personal sources of information. In addition, an attempt has been made to compare the aforementioned data relating to the Cold War period with analogous - albeit much more fragmentary and residual - data relating to the present day.

W  artykule – na podstawie japońskich i amerykańskich dokumentów rządowych i przy wykorzystaniu metod empirycznych, ilościowych i porównawczych – poddano analizie działalność prowadzoną KGB w Japonii przy wykorzystaniu tamtejszych legalnych rezydentur  w latach 1954-1991. Poza przedstawieniem ich liczby i lokalizacji, a także ewolucji liczby pracowników kadrowych KGB oraz określeniem ich proporcji do analogicznych pracowników GRU, jak również do wszystkich pracowników różnego rodzaju oficjalnych przedstawicielstw ZSRR, zaprezentowano ponadto zasadnicze kierunki działań komitetu w kraju “kwitnącej wiśni” oraz skalę penetracji japońskich instytucji poprzez osobowe źródła informacji. Dodatkowo próbowano porównać wspomniane dane ,odnoszące się do okresu zimnej wojny do analogicznych – choć znacznie bardziej fragmentarycznych i szczątkowych – dotyczących współczesności.

W artykule zaprezentowano w zarysie podstawowe struktury Komitetu Bezpieczeństwa Państwowego (przy Radzie Ministrów) ZSRR prowadzące działania operacyjne na terenie trzynastu państw Bliskiego Wschodu ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem: Libanu, Egiptu, Syrii, Iraku oraz Jemenu Północnego i Południowego. Ponadto przedstawiono specyfikę regionu, a także jej oddziaływanie na profil podejmowanych tam przedsięwzięć, zwłaszcza w zakresie operacji realizowanych w ramach jednostek organizacyjnych 1. Zarządu Głównego KGB odpowiedzialnego za prowadzenie wywiadu zagranicznego, jak również ich możliwy wpływ na późniejsze działania Służby Wywiadu Zagranicznego FR na tym obszarze.

The article outlines the basic structures of the State Security Committee (attached to the Council of Ministers) of the USSR carrying out operational activities in thirteen countries of the Middle East with particular emphasis: Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Iraq and North and South Yemen. Moreover, the specificity of the region was presented, as well as its impact on the profile of events undertaken there, especially in the scope of operations carried out within the organizational units of the 1st Chief Directorate of the KGB responsible for conducting foreign intelligence, as well as their possible impact on the subsequent activities of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation in this area.

Koniec „zimnej wojny” to czas zmian systemowych i restrukturyzacji rosyjskich instytucji wywiadowczych oraz struktur tego typu w innych krajach Wspólnoty Niepodległych Państw. Artykuł identyfikuje kierunki zmian i najważniejsze elementy, które wpłynęły na ewolucję struktur i sposobów działania rosyjskich instytucji wywiadowczych po 1991 r. Odnosi się też do najważniejszych elementów tych zmian: zasad działania instytucji o charakterze wywiadowczym, wymiaru organizacyjnego oraz obszaru działań operacyjnych i analitycznych, w tym wykorzystania nowych metod, technik i narzędzi.
