The reason for writing this article was the belief that the practice of teaching world literature as part of Polish studies needs to be reformed. According to the author’s postulates and proposals, this practice should be based on the one hand on a modern teaching methodology, and on the other hand on specific principles concerning course reading selection. The methodological change should involve placing emphasis on the application of teaching practices enabling students to effectively acquire a set of skills defined as reading competence, i.e. above all proficiency in the analysis and interpretation of literary texts and in the sphere of the broadly perceived understanding of literature. In turn, the rules concerning the change in the course reading selection are related to the postulate of geographical and historical expansion of the spectrum of works discussed during the world literature course. In addition, these courses can be used to give studentssome additional universal skills, useful in today’s labour market, also outside the field of Polish studies. The assumptions are in part exemplified by the teaching concept model included in the article, based on the use of short stories. The choice is related to the belief that this particular genre is highly useful in class at university, and at the same time to the desire to draw attention to it as material that can potentially be used in the teaching of this subject.

Przyczyną powstania niniejszego artykułu jest przekonanie o konieczności zreformowania praktyki nauczania literatury światowej na studiach polonistycznych. Zgodnie z postulatami i propozycjami autora, praktyka ta powinna zostać oparta z jednej strony na nowoczesnej metodyce nauczania, z drugiej zaś na określonych zasadach dotyczących wyboru lektur kursowych. Zmiana w sferze metodycznej powinna wiązać się z położeniem nacisku na stosowanie praktyk dydaktycznych umożliwiających efektywne nabywanie przez studenta zespołu umiejętności określonych nazwą kompetencji czytelniczej, czyli przede wszystkim biegłościw zakresie analizy i interpretacji tekstów literackich oraz w sferze szeroko pojętego rozumienia literatury. Reguły dotyczące zmiany doboru lektur wiążą się natomiast z postulatem geograficznego i historycznego rozszerzenia spektrum utworów omawianych w trakcie zajęć z literatury światowej. Ponadto, zajęcia te można wykorzystać dla dodania studentom pewnych umiejętności o charakterze uniwersalnym, przydatnych na współczesnym, także pozapolonistycznym, rynku pracy. Częściową egzemplifikację założeń stanowi zawarty w artykule przykładowy koncept dydaktyczny, oparty na wykorzystaniu tekstów literackich należących do krótkiej prozy (short story). Wybór związany jest z przekonaniem o wysokiej użyteczności właśnie tego gatunku na wykładach i zarazem z chęcią zwrócenia na niego uwagi jako na materiał do ewentualnego wykorzystania w dydaktyce tego przedmiotu.

The article derives from the intertextual approach to the notion of literary identity, introduced to the modern literary theory in the 1960’s by Julia Kristeva (born 1941). The main idea behind this approach is that no literary text should be perceived as an isolated unity, but always in relation to other texts, which it refers to. The author applies the intertextual perspective to examine the signs of external literary influences in Lise Andersens minimalist prose collection ”En særlig sommer og andre billeder”, published in 2008. The analysis aims to highlight influences from the American short story genre, which appears as an important source of inspiration not only for Andersen herself, but in fact for most of the Danish writers of minimalist fiction. The analysis provides examples of, how inspiration from the American short story manifests itself in form, narration and structure of the selected stories in the collection. Last but not least, the author draws attention to the general importance of American influences in Danish contemporary short fiction and their role for the critical perception of this literary genre both in Denmark and abroad.
