Artykuł zajmuje się problematyką związku literatury dziecięcej a kreowaniem tożsamości narodowej. Podstawą analizy jest zbiór baśni Priče iz davnine chorwackiej pisarki Ivany Brlić‑Mažuranić, który ukazał się w 1916 roku. Opowieści te powstałe w czasie tworzenia się świadomości narodowej w znaczny sposób wpłynęły na budowanie tożsamości narodowej Słowian południowych. Autorka zdając sobie sprawę ze znaczenia jakie ma książka na rozwój dziecka, podejmowała tematy, które były wówczas (i wydają się być nadal) ważnym elementem wychowania. Tekst zajmuje się konkretnymi aspektami, jakie poruszała pisarka, w tak szczególnym czasie tworzenia się narodów słowiańskich, starając się wpłynąć na młode pokolenie, by mogło tworzyć lepsze społeczeństwo.

The article deals with the problems of children’s literature and therefore creating national identity. The basis of the analysis is a collection of fairytales Priče and davnine by Croatian writer Ivana Brlić‑Mažuranić, which was published in 1916. These stories created during the formation of national consciousness, significantly influenced the building of the national identity of southern Slavs. The author, realizing the importance of the book on the child’s development, took up topics, which were then (and they seem to be still) an important element of education. The text deals with the specific aspects, that moved writer in such a special time of the formation of the Slavic nations, trying to influence the younger generation, that could create a better society.
