Doświadczenie neoliberalizmu w wydaniu latynoamerykańskim oprócz niezaprzeczalnych korzyści z liberalizacji, prywatyzacji i deregulacji przyniosło także wiele rozczarowań i niezrealizowanych obietnic. Po blisko trzech dekadach reform neoliberalnych kraje Ameryki Łacińskiej starają się na nowo określić swoją strategię rozwoju i swoją rolę we współczesnej gospodarce światowej, która również przeszła jakościowe zmiany. Z jednej strony w znacznie szerszym stopniu uwzględniają długofalowe cele społeczne, reformy rynku pracy, jakość i dostępność edukacji, rozwój kapitału ludzkiego oraz dalsze reformy strukturalne, a z drugiej doceniają potrzebę tworzenia warunków dla zwiększenia międzynarodowej konkurencyjności kraju poprzez wzrost inwestycji, poprawę infrastruktury i innowacyjności gospodarki. Kraje latynoamerykańskie coraz intensywniej poszukują możliwości zwiększenia korzyści z globalizacji, wykorzystując wcześniejsze zdobycze strategii neoliberalnej, ale dodając do niej nowe elementy i proponując zupełnie nowe spojrzenie na kwestie rozwoju gospodarczego i społecznego.

The experience of neoliberalism in Latin American edition brought, apart from the undeniable benefits of liberalization, privatization and deregulation, many disappointments and unrealized promises. After nearly three decades of neoliberal reforms Latin American countries are trying to redefine its growth strategy and its role in the world economy. On the one hand, to a much greater extent they take into account the long-term social objectives of the reform of the labor market, quality and accessibility of education, human capital development and further structural reforms, and on the other hand the need to create conditions for increasing the international competitiveness of the economy through enlarged investment, infrastructure improvement and innovation of the economy. Latin American countries are looking for ways to increase the benefits of globalization, using the earlier achievements of neo-liberal policies, but at the same time adding to them new crucial elements, offering a whole new perspective of economic and social development.
