This article presents a method for computer-assisted text analysis, which has been employed by the author in a number of studies. The inductive methodology is based on a frequency count analysis of the co-occurrence of words; and a visualization of the results of this text analysis in a two dimensional space. The main advantage of this text analysis technique is its potential for (a) exploring large amounts of textual data without any pre-coded or theoretically laden vocabularies or thesauri; and (b) the extraction of discursive patterns often only detectable in an a posteriori expert analysis. An example is used to demonstrate the use of this computer assisted text analysis method through an analysis of the transcripts of biographical interviews exploring life in Czech socialist society. The analysis presented uncovers both shared and distinctive discursive patterns found in the narratives of the interviewees who come from two distinct social groups.

The study is a computer-assisted text analysis of corpora obtained from the web pages of nine volunteer, non-governmental organisations and interest groups. The analysis encompasses three areas of justice claims: trade unions (the relationship between employers and employees), feminism (the relationship between men and women), and human rights (the relationship between citizens, foreign nationals, and the state). The aim of the study, based on Foucaultian concepts, is to determine whether media communications are structured by the formative impact of the discourse of claim-making or justice. The main findings relate both to the content and the structure of textual production. First, the organisations examined do not make frequent use of normatively loaded words in their statements. The matter of justice is implicit in their texts. Second, the structure of the statements, represented by the thirty most frequently used words, exhibits a common pattern in all three areas studied. At the one end of the 'statement spectrum', there are words referring to the social situation of the contesting actors ('background'), while at the opposite end, words used in reference to their 'battlefield' (claim-making, bargaining and decision making) appear. This polar structure supports the hypothesis that the media communications of selected activist groups are influenced by the discourse of claim-making or justice.

Ján Kollár´s letters was a text analysis project which the editor Jozef Ambruš (1914 – 1993) had begun to prepare as early as the beginning of the 1970s. The first volume was published as a book in the year 1991. After Ambruš´s death the responsibility to finish it was taken over by Augustín Maťovčík from Slovak National Library in Martin, who himself extended and partly checked the materials left by J. Ambruš. Then in the year 2008 he contacted The Institute of Slovak Literature, Slovak Academy of Sciences and offered them cooperation on preparing the edition. The project Listy Jána Kollára II. – III. (Ján Kollár´s Letters II - III) (the edition preparation phase) has been carried out since 2010. Its purpose is to process the already prepared materials, verify and complete them, and finalize their editing, of course, with regard to the current state of knowledge of Ján Kollár´s life and work. In line with the original concept of Jozef Ambruš´s it will involve text analysis and editing of two volumes: the letters of the years 1840 – 1844 (about 140 units, vol. 2) and the letters of the years 1845 – 1852 (about 100 units, vol. 3). The edited letters repeatedly give evidence of Kollár´s wide correspondence contacts with refugees as well as politicians from various Slavic nations. This is the area which provides space to further research of Slovak-Slavic cultural and literary relations in the 19th century.

The aim of the article is to examine how a key principle of democratic government, public accountability, was applied during the process of the Czech Republic's accession to the European Union. The authoress analyses official documents and the public discourse in newspaper articles from the period between 1998 and 2000. She shows that the mechanism of accountability, which the European Commission introduced into the Czech political scene, was connected with the way in which the accession process was conceptualised as a set of technical tasks. She therefore argues that the European Commission introduced the 'technical' framework of the accession process, and she examines how this definitional framework was reflected in the public discourse. During the period under observation this framework was very influential; the Czech political scene also played a part in maintaining it and knew how to make strategic use of it. While the European Commission did contribute to establishing public accountability in the accession process, this accountability was only 'public' in the sense of its publicity, as the public at no point played a role in defining this framework. Although such discourse was specific to the period before the Czech Republic became a member of the EU, its general features are by no means a thing of the past. The conversion of political decisions into a 'technical' framework continues to be an effective means of dealing with complex social processes.

The subject of the article is to study the motif of three Svätopluk‘s rods in Slovak legends. Textual analysis, interpretation and comparison are used to present the ways of grasping the issue in the Slovak literary context. The first literary approach to the processing of the legend can be found in the work of Jozef Cíger Hronský, later on, it is present in legends by Ľudovít Janota, Ján Domasta and Milan Ferko. Specific legends will undergo textual analysis and the means and methods by which the authors achieve particular atmosphere of the time in which the legends are set will be explored. Expected educational intent of the legend is modified by each author in an original way. The article also deals with the question of how the motif of Svätopluk‘s rods becomes a part of the literary context. At the same time, other examples of texts related to the motif of three Svatopluk‘s rods as part of the narrative will be discussed and analysed.

The aim of this paper is to identify the factors that contribute to the successful funding of crowdfunding projects, with a focus on conventional, social media and affective factors. Our unique dataset contains 267,830 Kickstarter projects from the U.S., Australia, Canada, the U.K., and Europe. In addition to determinants based on conventional factors, we study the textual characteristics of a project’s description and comments, including sentiment and emotional cues, extracted using a web scraper. We find that social media factors (such as social networks, comments on projects, the experience and social media capital of the project founder) as well as affective factors (emotional cues and sentiment related to project description) influence the success of projects in addition to the conventional determinants such as the funding goal, funding project duration, and project category. Our results are stable when we control for partial time periods, the geographic origin of the founder, and the founder’s social media capital and experience.

The authors in their study, which is a kind of introduction to the subject, recap on the current state of knowledge and define the basic editing and text analysis issues of Slezské písne /Silesian Songs/ by Peter Bezruč. They use the actual Bezruč´s text material and confrontation of the edition solutions to date, as established in the works of Oldřich Králík, Viktor Fick, Miroslav Červenka a Břetislav Štork, to come to terms with some aspects of the domestic editorial practice and text analysis tradition. The centre of their attention is how M. Červenka and B. Štorek assess the acts of censorship and self-censorship and corruptions in their edition of Silesian Songs (1967), how the original text i.e. the canonical text is established, also the way they verify the applicability of and the method of applying the terms such as historical identity or authorization. What is also commented on is the competitor´s edition of Silesian Songs by O. Králík, V. Fick a G. Palas subtitled Historický vývoj /Historical Development/ (1967). The last but not the least the authors draw attention to the possibilities arising from the wider scope of relevant editions of the collection, which should be the base of a new examination of the text history (stemma). Beside the internationalist text analysis approach to the material, the authors suggest that an approach focusing on the social layers of the text should be used, they outline possibilities arising from the otherwise defined concept of so called external interventions into the text related to censorship and editorial practice.

The article reflects the experience of preparing the edition of poetry (F. Hrubín Básně /Poems/, Host 2010) and the edition of letters (Adresát František Hrubín. Dopisy F. Hrubína, J. Seiferta, J. Strnadla, E. Frynty /The Addressee František Hrubín. The Letters of F. Hrubín, J. Seifert, J. Strnadl, E. Frynta/, Host 2010), which are based on the published Hrubín´s poetry as well as Hrubín´s heritage (it is deposited in Literary archive of The Museum of Czech Literature in Prague). The article deals with applying the traditional editorial techniques (R. Havel, B. Štorek, M. Červenka) while producing both of the book editions. It ponders over the choice of the texts published again (the collections of poems), for the first time (the letters), over the collation of the published versions to date, over the analytical record of the variants, over the interpretation of the discovered, traditionally held „mistakes“. In terms of the critical approach to the main edition preparation it presents disputable viewpoints, stimuli for assessment. It thinks over the editors´ numerous attempts of „the definite version“ of the collection Hirošima and their notes in Comments (in the parts Proměny knižních vydání /Metamorphoses of the book editions/ and Časopisecké verze básní /Magazine-published poem versions/). The article considers the questions whether the preserved letters should be published completely or selectively, how one-way versus two-way correspondence can be justified, whether the drafts and copies should be included when the letter originals are not available. In the conclusion the article outlines possibilities of the editorial approach when recording intermedial relations in F. Hrubín´s work (book or film presentations of Zlatá reneta /Golden Reinette/ and the process of making the work of art in its manuscript variants).

This study explored the different conceptualizations of envy in scholarly psychological publications, in terms of cultural models shared in scientific community, which contribute to the social construction of this emotional experience. A text analysis based on social representation theory was conducted on a corpus of 450 abstracts consulted in PsycINFO Database and allowed the detection of five main representations of envy in psychological literature as primary destructiveness, subjective unfairness, narcissistic defence, competitive tendency and malicious joy. They are conceived along four latent dimensions respectively, regarding source (internal/external agency), function (self-development/other-derogation), self-awareness (low/high control) and legitimacy (moral/amoral values) of envy. The results highlight the psychoanalytic and psychosocial perspective about envy and its paradoxical function for social order.
