The paper presents the theory of universals in Boethius' 'The Consolation of Philosophy', especially, the problem of a species existing in matter and a form beyond matter, from the fifth book of the work (V.4.24-39). The main conclusion is that species in matter are individual beings. Boethius' theory shows an interesting and innovative unity of Platonic and Aristotelian plots.
