Transnationalism is a phenomenon closely related to globalization, contemporary migrations, civilization and technological progress. Grzegorz Babinski defines transmigrants and transnationals as people living temporarily in country different than the country of origin. Such persons maintain wide and intensive contacts with their home country as well as unchanged ethnic/national identity. Specific changes in the life styles, perception of others and self, approaches to the issues such as work, friendship and family life are caused by the suspension of migrants between fatherland and the place of migration. This factor leads them to the confrontation of their behavior, habits and values with new experiences. However these issues don't cause the assimilation (traditional result of migration) and changes to essential values. These problems are being discussed by the authoress, who conducted an ethnographic research among German businessmen community in Poznan.divisions.

This article is the result of preliminary phase of research on transnationalism conducted by author from 2008. It focuses on adaptation of German-transmigrants, who migrated recently to Great Poland, especially Poznan city. As a result of cultural compromises, migrants work out new life styles. Since most Germans in Poznan live temporarily, the changes made to their cultural patterns are limited to necessary minimum. However it doesn't mean that Germans aim at the isolation from Poles and their culture, and focus only on their individual goals. Migrants are usually very interested in what they find upon their arrival to Poland. During their stay they verify popular stereotypes about Poles and make new observations. They can very well relate themselves to Polish reality and use its most interesting or attractive elements in the adaptation process.

Migracje z Polski do Berlina mają kilkusetletnią historię.

Migrations from Poland to Berlin have a centuries-old history. Nowadays, the migration in Berlin is one of the most important centres of Polish people abroad. For several years, one can observe the process of transnationalization of this cluster. This article aims to track changes of functions in a Polish Roman Catholic parish in the context of ongoing transformations. Transformations of migration are in fact a challenge for institutions involved in the organization of life of Poles abroad, including the Church. They reflect in the evolutions of the religious practices of people taking part in them, in their moral attitude, ways of thinking and so on.
