This article is a discussion of Dominika Niedźwiedź’s monograph entitled Jak Tadeusz Żeleński stworzył Boya. Strategie, autokreacje, wizerunki [How Tadeusz Żeleński created Boy. Strategies, autocreations, portraits], which analyses the pioneering literary marketing strategies applied by Tadeusz Żeleński (Boy) in Poland (such as building his own intellectual brand, creating and promoting texts as products tailored to the expectations of the audience, the commercialisation of talent and cooperation with other market players, e.g. the press, publishing houses and literary groups).

Artykuł stanowi omówienie monografii Dominiki Niedźwiedź Jak Tadeusz Żeleński stworzył Boya. Strategie, autokreacje, wizerunki, poświęconej analizie pionierskich na gruncie polskim strategii marketingowych w dziedzinie literatury stosowanych przez pisarza (takich jak budowanie własnej intelektualnej marki, tworzenie i promocja tekstów jako produktów dostosowanych do oczekiwań odbiorcy, komercjalizacja talentu, współpraca z innymi graczami na rynku, np. prasą, wydawnictwami, grupami literackimi).

This article, the first in the series, is devoted to the work of Żeleński-Boy as a theater critic. In his witty feature articles Boy discussed theatrical performances, sharing with the audience his view on the quality of the theatre programme, way of adapting literary texts, actors’ skills of creating a stage role. The article presents the views of Boy on shaping the repertoire of Polish theaters of the interwar period, especially with regard to the French farce and comedy. On their basis Boy demonstrated diversity of tradition of Polish and French theater and explained the impact of historical conditions on the differences in the treatment of stage entertainment.
