Recenzja dotyczy podręcznika Historia kina. Tom 4. Kino końca wieku (2019) pod redakcją Iwony Sowińskiej, Tadeusza Lubelskiego i Rafała Syski, stanowiącego kontynuację serii podręczników historii kina zapoczątkowanej tomem o kinie niemym. Autorka koncentruje się zarówno na całościowej koncepcji tomu (obejmującego zakres czasowy lat 80. i 90. XX w.), sprofilowanego przede wszystkim na kino narodowe oraz autorskie, jak i na poszczególnych tekstach przygotowanych przez filmoznawców z kilku ośrodków polskich i zagranicznych. Szczególny nacisk został położony na realizację podstawowej funkcji wiązanej z formułą, jaką jest podręcznik, czyli poznawczej, oraz na strategie stosowane zarówno przez redakcję, jak i poszczególnych autorów mierzących się z obszarem światowych kinematografii końca wieku.

The Review deals with the textbook History of Cinema. Volume 4. Cinema of the end of the century [Historia kina. Tom 4. Kino końca wieku] (2019) edited by Iwona Sowińska, Tadeusz Lubelski and Rafał Syska, which is a continuation of a series of textbooks on the history of cinema initiated with the volume on silent cinema. The author focuses both on the overall concept of the volume (covering the time range of the 1980s and 1990s), profiled primarily on national and author cinema, as well as on individual texts prepared by film experts from several Polish and foreign research centres. Particular emphasis was placed on the implementation of the basic function associated with the textbook formula, that is the cognitive function, and on further strategies used by both the editors and individual authors dealing with the area of global cinematography of the end of the century.
