Mariusz Bartnicki’s article is devoted to an aspect of the formation of the community identity of the inhabitants of medieval Rus’, namely the role played in this respect by hagiographic works. On the example of his analysis of the texts included in the Kievan Cave Patericon, Bartnicki seeks to determine the attitude of church authors to ethnic groups inhabiting the territory ruled by the Rurik dynasty. He also addresses the issue of the role of such texts in the formation of a sense of unity among the inhabitants of the Ruthenian lands.Bartnicki’s examination of the Kiev community of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries through the prism of ethnic motifs present in Patericon reveals that even in the mid-twelfth century, the Kiev community was a multi-colored mosaic of various ethnic identities. Numerous references in the texts of the stories to ethnic themes allow us to believe that the memory of the origin of ancestors played an important role in determining identity on both the personal and the social levels. The main pillar on which the communal sense of identity was built was the ruling dynasty and the common faith, which regulated customs and social relations.

Der Artikel ist einem der Aspekte der Entwicklung von Gemeinschaftsidentität unter den Bewohnern der mittelalterlichen Rus gewidmet, und zwar der diesbezüglichen Rolle von hagiographischen Werken. Am Beispiel der Analyse von den in Pateryk Kijowsko-Pieczerski [Paterikon des Kiewer Höhlenklosters] enthaltenen Texten wird versucht, die Beziehung der orthodoxen Autoren zu den unter der Herrschaft von Rurikiden lebenden Volksgruppen zu bestimmen. Der Autor wirft des Weiteren die Frage auf, welche Rolle solche Texte bei der Herausbildung des Zusammengehörigkeitsgefühls unter den Bewohnern der ruthenischen Gebiete spielten.Ein Blick auf die Kiewer Gemeinschaft im 12. und 13. Jahrhundert vor dem Hintergrund der ethnischen Problematik in Pateryk zeigt, dass die Kiewer Gemeinschaft noch in der Mitte des 12. Jahrhunderts ein buntes Mosaik von Ethnien war. Zahlreiche Verweise auf ethnische Motive in den Geschichten lassen vermuten, dass die Erinnerung an die Herkunft der Vorfahren ein wichtiger Faktor bei der Bestimmung der Identität auf persönlicher und sozialer Ebene war. Der Hauptpfeiler, auf den sich das Identitätsgefühl in der Gemeinschaft stützte, war das Herrscherhaus und der gemeinsame Glaube, der den Bereich der Sittlichkeit und der sozialen Beziehungen regelte.

Artykuł został poświęcony jednemu z aspektów kształtowania się tożsamości wspólnotowej mieszkańców średniowiecznej Rusi, a mianowicie roli, jaką w tym względzie odgrywały utwory hagiograficzne. Na przykładzie analizy tekstów wchodzących w skład Pateryku Kijowsko-Pieczerskiego podjęto próbę określenia stosunku autorów cerkiewnych do grup etnicznych zamieszkujących władztwo Rurykowiczów. Autor artykułu porusza również kwestię roli tego rodzaju tekstów w kształtowaniu się poczucia jedności wśród mieszkańców ziem ruskich.Przyjrzenie się społeczności kijowskiej XII–XIII w. przez pryzmat wątków etnicznych obecnych w Pateryku pokazuje, że jeszcze w połowie XII w. społeczność kijowska była wielobarwną mozaiką etnosów. Liczne odwołania w tekstach opowiadań do wątków etnicznych pozwalają sądzić, że pamięć o pochodzeniu przodków była ważnym elementem określenia tożsamości na poziomie osobistym oraz społecznym. Głównym filarem, na którym budowano poczucie tożsamości w wymiarze wspólnotowym, była dynastia panująca oraz wspólna wiara, która regulowała sferę obyczajowości i relacji społecznych.
