Theoreticians of the Russian Narodnik movement emphasized the virtues of the traditional peasant economy and set the role of Russian intelligentsia in pursuit of the socio-economic progress of the country, where emphasis was placed mainly on the work of the people and on the ideals of the people. Both the legal as well as the illegal press, which constituted a specific public forum of ideological supporters, came to the theorists of the movement’s aid in propagating the Narodnik ideas.
