Autorka przypomina nieznany poza rynkiem azjatyckim film Tiana Zhuanzhuanga „Dzieci rock’n’rolla”, zrealizowny w okresie, gdy reżyser kręcił filmy na zlecenie, nie uznając ich za wypowiedzi autorskie. Film ten obrazuje interesujący fenomen z zakresu subkultury chińskiej. Muzyka rozrywkowa w Chinach lat 80. dzieliła się na dwa rodzaje: „tongsu yinyue”, popieraną przez władzę, i „yaogun yinyue”, undergroundową muzykę rockową. Różniły się one pod każdym względem. Formą szczególnie faworyzowaną przez młodzież był breakdance. O losach tancerzy uprawiających tę formę opowiada film Tiana, w którym reżyser odsłania subwersywny charakter chińskiej subkultury.

The author reminds us of the little known outside of Asia film by Tian Zhuanhuang “Rock Kids” (1988). It was made in the period when the director made films to order, and did not consider them to be expressive of his opinions. The film depicts an interesting phenomenon in the field of Chinese subculture. Pop music of the 1980s China was divided into types: “tongsu yinyue”, which was supported by the government, and the underground rock music, the “yaogun yinyue”. They differed in every respect. The form particularly popular among the youth was the breakdance. Tian’s film presents the story of dancers practicing breakdance, and reveals the subversive character of the Chinese subculture.
