The author evaluates the role of Great Britain in the process of transformation of the European Security and Defence Policy. The main thesis leads to a conclusion that it was Blair’s politics which enabled the forming of European Security and Defence Policy and led to achieving military independence for the European Union (although this independence was limited). The author defends his thesis by analysing particu-lar forms of British engagement in the process of transformation of the Common Foreign & Security Policy and by evaluating the consequences of individual political.

W poniższym artykule Autor dokonuje oceny roli Wielkiej Brytanii w procesie przeobrażeń Europejskiej Polityki Bezpieczeństwa i Obrony. Główna teza artykułu sprowadza się do stwierdzenia, że to polityka Tony’ego Blaira w dużej mierze umożliwiła budowę zrębów tej polityki i doprowadziła do uzyskania ograniczonej, ale jednak samodzielności militarnej Unii Europejskiej. Tezę tę Autor dowodzi, analizując poszczególne formy brytyjskiego zaangażowania w proces przeobrażeń Wspólnej Polityki Zagranicznej i Bezpieczeństwa oraz oceniając konsekwencje poszczególnych decyzji politycznych, podejmowanych w latach 1997–2007 przez Premiera i Gabinet Jej Królewskiej Mości.

The explosion of terrorists activities by Islamic radicals in north America, Europe and Asia in the 21st century evoked dismay, sadness and anger among the world community and the political leaders. Terrorism was almost continually front – page news and the subject of much discussion amongst politicians in the United Kingdom (UK). Moreover, Prime Minister Tony Blair’s words: “…we will not rest until this evil is driven from our world…” proved that the UK became a zone of fighting with international terrorism, even though it had connections to these strands well before these attacks.
