The purpose of this article is to present the most important initiatives undertaken within the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) in the field of cooperation to combat transnational organized crime (TOC) in the Triple Border Area (TBA). The effects of this cooperation, which dates back to the mid-1990s, will also be assessed. The emphasis is on approximating the legal and institutional foundations of this cooperation.

El propósito de este artículo es presentar las iniciativas más importantes emprendidas dentro del Mercado Común del Sur (Mercosur) en el campo de la cooperación para combatir la delincuencia organizada transnacional (DOT) en la región de la Triple Frontera (TF). También se evaluarán los efectos de esta cooperación, la cual se remonta a mediados de la década de 1990. El énfasis está en la aproximación de los fundamentos legales e institucionales de esta cooperación.
