The Department of Methodology of History and History of Historiography began functioning at Lublin’s Maria Curie-Skłodowska University Institute of History in 1987. Th e establishment of the Department was initiated by Professor Jan Pomorski, who became its Head and has since held this position. Other faculty members are: Dr Ewa Solska, Dr Hab. Piotr Witek and Dr Hab. Marek Woźniak, Associate Professor. The Department embraces historians, theorists of history science, methodologists of sciences, whose methodological style and training developed under infl uence of the Poznań Methodology School ( Jerzy Topolski, Jerzy Kmita, Anna Pałubicka), Andrzej F. Grabski’s model of history of historiography, Robert A. Rosenstone’s visual history, the social constructivism of Nelson Goodman, Peter L. Berger and Th omas Luckman or Stanley Fish, the neopragmatism of Richard Rorty and Hilary Putnam, Th omas Kuhn’s historicism, the poststructuralism of Roland Barthes and Michel Foucault, the hermeneutics of Hans Georg Gadamer and Paul Ricoeur, the cognitive grammar of George Lakoff and Mark Johnson, the narrativism of Hayden White and Franklin Ankersmit, Cliff ord Geertz’s interpretive anthropology, and the tradition of the Lvov Warsaw School (Alfred Tarski, Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz, Roman Ingarden) and analytical philosophy. Th e teachers of the Department of Methodology of History conduct research in the following fi elds: methodology of history, history of historiography, neuroscience in the context of humanistic research, visual history, public history, digital humanities, cognitive science, and contemporary theories of literature. Th ey conduct classes with students in methodology of history, history of historiography, history of philosophy, production of historical films, in designing historical games, knowledge of museums, and introduction to media studies. The Department’s faculty are co-originators and co-authors of programs taught at two specializations in historical studies: Management of Cultural Heritage and Commercialization of Historical Knowledge, and Applied History. Both specializations train and prepare students to practice history in the field of public history. The teachers of the UMCS Department of Methodology of History together with its doctoral and graduate students eff ectively collaborate with many methodological and historiographical centers in Poland and abroad. They successfully develop and bring into effect Professor Jerzy Topolski’s idea of the need to carry out theoretical refl ection on academic historiography (research practice of historians), broadening it with considerations on public history.

W opracowaniu podjęto próbę oceny osiągnięć naukowo-badawczych pracowników w zakresie geografii turyzmu, a także ich zastosowania w dydaktyce i praktyce. Podstawową metodą badawczą była kwerenda treści artykułów naukowych oraz opracowań i materiałów archiwalnych zgromadzonych w Zakładzie.

Archival studies programs include periodic study visits in the modern archives. So far, no thorough publications were devoted to them, which is why this text was written. It is focused on visits to Lviv the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) students’, firstly those enrolled in the archivist specialization of the history program, then, since 2012, archival studies. They were organized annually within the period between 2007 and 2019 for groups of six students with their supervisors. The visits lasted seven days each, and their aim was to explore the archives and libraries of Lviv. Each year a similar student group of the Ukrainian University of Lviv in Honor of Ivan Franko came to Lublin and partook in the explorations of Polish archives along with the UMCS students. Over the described period, 74 students of UMCS altogether went to Lviv, and a similar number of Lviv’ students visited Polish archives. The article characterizes the visit program of the Lublin students to Lviv and its execution, and evaluates the effects of the visits with the use of the student reports, short essays as well as the assessments of visits drawn up after years.

W programach studiów archiwistycznych polskich uczelni są okresowe wyjazdy w celu zwiedzania archiwów. Do tej pory nie poświęcono im żadnych gruntowniejszych publikacji, dlatego powstał ten tekst. Dotyczy on wyjazdów do Lwowa studentów Uniwersytetu Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej (UMCS) najpierw specjalności archiwistycznej kierunku historycznego, a od 2012 r. archiwistyki. Organizowano je corocznie w latach 2007–2019 i uczestniczyła w nich grupa od czterech do sześciu studentów z opiekunem. Trwały przeważnie siedem dni, a ich cel stanowiło zwiedzanie lwowskich archiwów oraz bibliotek. Jednocześnie niemal każdego roku podobna grupa studentów Lwowskiego Narodowego Uniwersytetu im. Iwana Franki przyjeżdżała do Lublina i brała udział w objeździe polskich archiwów razem ze studentami UMCS. W opisywanym okresie do Lwowa wyjechało łącznie 74 studentów lubelskiej uczelni, a podobna liczba studentów lwowskich uczestniczyła w zwiedzaniu archiwów polskich. W artykule dokonano charakterystyki programu pobytu lubelskich studentów we Lwowie oraz jego realizacji. Oceniono też efekty zwiedzania, wykorzystując sprawozdania studentów, krótkie eseje, a także ich refleksje dokonywane po latach.

Docent dr Mieczysław Marczuk urodził się 5 października 1924 r. w Wielgorzu. Po zakończeniu II wojny światowej wznowił naukę, w roku szkolnym 1945/46 ukończył gimnazjum rolnicze i rozpoczął kurs pedagogiczny dla kandydatów na nauczycieli szkół powszechnych. Studia pedagogiczne ukończył na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim uzyskując w 1958 r. tytuł magistra. Z UMCS związał się w 1963 r. i pozostał wierny uczelni do ostatnich dni swego życia. Jako do-cent został zastępcą, a następnie dyrektorem Instytutu Nauk Filozoficznych. Od 1973 r. pełnił funkcję kierownika Zakładu Andragogiki i Pedeutologii przy Instytucie Pedagogiki i Psycho-logii Wydziału Humanistycznego UMCS. Był prodziekanem Wydziału Pedagogiki i Psychologii oraz dyrektorem Instytutu Pedagogiki w latach 1984-1991. Reaktywował „Lubelski Rocznik Pedagogiczny” i został jego redaktorem naczelnym. Był współtwórcą Lubelskiego Uniwersyte-tu Trzeciego Wieku. Współpracował z uczelniami wyższymi, zarówno polskimi, jak i zagranicz-nymi oraz ważnymi instytucjami, jak np. Międzynarodowa Organizacja Sztuki Ludowej. Zmarł 22 lipca 2016 r. w Lublinie.

Associate professor Mieczysław Marczuk, PhD, was born on 5 October 1924 in Wielgorz, Po-land. After World War II he continued his education and in the academic year 1945/46 he graduated from an agricultural middle school and started a pedagogy course for candidates for public school teachers. In 1958 he graduated with a master’s degree in pedagogy from the University of Warsaw. In 1963 he started working at the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin and remained loyal to the MCSU until the last day of his life. As an associate professor he became the assistant director and then the director of the Institute of Philosophy. Since 1973 he had been the head of the Department of Andragogy and Pedeutology at the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology at the Faculty of Humanities of the MCSU. He was the deputy dean of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology and the director of the Institute of Peda-gogy between 1984 and 1991. He resumed the publication of the “Lubelski Rocznik Pedagog-iczny” journal and became its editor-in-chief. He was a co-creator of the University of the Third Age in Lublin. He cooperated with various universities, both in Poland and abroad, and with many important institutions, including the International Organization of Folk Art. He died on July 22, 2016 in Lublin, Poland.
