W referacie przedstawiono koncepcję uczenia się przez całe życie, wyni¬kającą z zaleceń zawartych w strategicznych dokumentach i polityce UE. Zaprezentowano podstawowe wskaźniki ilustrujące aktywność edukacyjną dorosłych mieszkańców Polski i innych krajów UE. W tym kontekście scharakteryzowano rolę uczelni wyższych w zakresie edukacji całożyciowej oraz główne wyzwania, jakim muszą sprostać polskie szkoły wyższe.

The paper presents the concept of lifelong learning (LLL) resulting from the recommendations contained in the strategic documents and policies European Union. It presents the basic indicators on the educational activity of the adult residents of Poland and other EU countries. In this context, in this article is characterized the role of universities in the field of lifelong education, and the main challenges faced by Polish universities.
