This paper is devoted to a discussion of the anthroponymy of the former Volynia and Chelmia territory. It presents naming patterns used among Ukrainian privileged class. The most important issues discussed in this paper are as follows: – a presentation and characteristics of naming styles using elements after the first name which refer to men, with an indication of the frequency of the suffixes; – a presentation of the evolution of additional identifiers; – a presentation of the most typical naming patterns, also depending on the type of source document; and – the similarities and dissimilarities between Ukrainian and Polish anthroponymy in olden day Volynia and Chelmia, the scope of mutual interference between the Ukrainian and Polish languages and different anthroponymic systems.
