The article discusses controversies over an inscription on Władysław The White’s tombstone, who died in 1388 and was buried in Dijon Cathedral. The author refutes current findings concerning the date of the duke’s death and concludes that if one considers Vladislaus Albus obiit decimum diem ante Kalenda Martias 1388 r. then, it should be understood as 21st of February that year. However, it is possible that Władysław The White died either pridie Kalendas Martias or on the Calends of March (Kalendis Martiis). Nonetheless, the roman number „I” is visible on the inscription reengraved in the 18th century and, most likely, was already engraved on the original 14th-century epitaph.

Autor omawia kontrowersje związane z interpretacją inskrypcji widniejącej na nagrobku księcia Władysława Białego, zmarłego w 1388 r. i pochowanego w katedrze w Dijon. Podważa dotychczasowe ustalenia dotyczące dziennej daty zgonu księcia i dochodzi do wniosku, że jeśli ktoś przyjmuje, że Vladislaus Albus obiit decimum diem ante Kalendas Martias 1388 r., to powinien to być dzień 21 lutego tego roku. Niewykluczone natomiast, że Władysław Biały zmarł albo pridie Kalendas Martias, albo w same Marcowe Kalendy (Kalendis Martiis). Tak czy inaczej rzymska cyfra „I”, widoczna dziś na inskrypcji przekutej w XVIII stuleciu, najprawdopodobniej widniała już na czternastowiecznym oryginalnym epitafium.
