As in many towns of East Galicia, there were three nationalities living in pre-war Drohobycz: Poles, Jews and Ukrainians. Upon the outbreak of WW II the multi-ethnic relations, which had been relatively good, changed. During the second German occupation, in July 1941, an Ukrainian-led slaughter of Jewish population took place. On the basis of mainly Jewish, post-war testimonies from the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem, the author analyses the causes and the course of pogrom in Drohobycz.

Podobnie jak w wielu miastach Galicji Wschodniej w przedwojennym Drohobyczu żyły trzy narodowości: Polacy, Żydzi i Ukraińcy. Po wybuchu II wojny światowej stosunki wieloetniczne, które były stosunkowo dobre, uległy zmianie. Podczas drugiej okupacji niemieckiej, w lipcu 1941 r., miała miejsce rzeź ludności żydowskiej prowadzona przez Ukraińców. Na podstawie głównie żydowskich, powojennych zeznań Instytutu Yad Vashem w Jerozolimie, autor analizuje przyczyny i przebieg pogromu w Drohobyczu.
