The article presents the activities of evangelical female deacons in Silesia in the time period before World War I. On the example of Evangelical Diaconal Institution in Ząbkowice Śląskie the development of establishments of this kind was pictured. The female deacons in Ząbkowice Śląskie cared for the sick, educated the children and managed orphanages and creches.
The article presents the last years of Evangelical Diaconal Institution in Ząbkowice Śląskie, which was founded in the mid-19th century to care of the sick and children. Chronicles and memoirs stored in the deaconesses archive in Wertheim (Germany) were used as sources.
The early fourteenth-century castle in Ząbkowice Śląskie will be preserved in the form of a permanent ruin. Such a treatment of an object is a recognized, justified and proper form of an existence of a architectural monument which is deprived of its original function and completely devastated. The author recalls the history of the castle and presents premises for the revalorisation and management of the object.
