W artykule porównane zostały, pod kątem fabuły i narracji, powieść Pasażerka Zofii Posmysz i tekst libretta napisany przez Aleksandra Miedwiediewa. Omówione zostały podobieństwa i różnice zachodzące pomiędzy pierwowzorem (powieścią) i jego tekstową adaptacją (librettem). Ponadto podjęta została również próba analizy zabiegów adaptacyjnych dokonanych przez autora libretta, kompozytora i dwóch reżyserów opery. Istotna okazała się także interpretacja motywu modlitwy obozowej oraz tematu różnorodności narodowej i religijnej, zagadnień podjętych przez autora libretta oraz zobrazowanych przez reżyserów dwu inscenizacji operowych (warszawskiej i jekaterynburskiej). W artykule podjęto również kwestie związane z pytaniami dotyczącymi obecności Boga w Auschwitz oraz dylematami moralnymi związanymi z winą i karą za popełnione zło. To przypomnienie o istnieniu religijności w ekstremalnych warunkach i praktykowaniu wiary w obozie koncentracyjnym. Analiza porównawcza i interpretacja obu dzieł pozwala na odkrywanie zawartych w utworach znaczeń i uniwersalnego przesłania tekstów.

In the article the novel and the text of libretto written by Aleksander Miediwediew were compared in terms of the plot and narrative. The similarities and diferences be tween the original (the novel) and its adaptation (the libretto) were discussed. The attempt of analysis of adaptive treatment done by author of the libretto, the composer and the two directors of the opera was made. The text tells about new subjects, for example: national and religious diversity of the prisoners or the theme of prayer in the camp, which were put in the libretto by the author, and which were pictured by the directors of both opera stagings (the Warsaw and the Jekaterynburg ones). Issues relating to questions about the presence of God at Auschwitz as well as moral dillemas concerning guilt and punishment for the commited evil were addressed. Itʾs a memento of the presence of religion in extreme conditions and observing oneʾs faith in a concentration camp. The comparative analysis and interpretation of both works allows for the discovery of meanings included in the works and the universal message of the texts.
