W artykule rozważono dwa zagadnienia. W pierwszej kolejności autorka ustaliła, jakie zachowania rodzicielskie przypisały roli macochy osoby, które zastępują dziecku matkę, nie mając do tego tytułu prawnego, następnie pokazano częstotliwość przejawiania przez te osoby wybranych zachowań rodzicielskich. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań prowadzą do wniosku, że respondenci nałożyli na macochę rozmaite powinności, przede wszystkim opiekę nad pasierbem. Z nielicznymi odstępstwami powierzyli jej zadanie otoczenia pasierba sympatią, miłością i zainteresowaniem oraz jego socjalizowanie. Badani powiązali z rolą macochy oczekiwanie, że matka zastępcza będzie się zachowywała wobec pasierba tak samo jak naturalna. Jednocześnie respondenci przyznali, że oni sami nie przestrzegali bezwyjątkowo sformułowanych zaleceń. Odstępstwa najsilniej zaznaczyły się w odniesieniu do wypełniania przez nich funkcji socjalizacyjnej.

Two important issues are contemplated in this article. First of all, it is determined what parenting behaviours have been attributed to a stepmother by people who replace a mother of a child and do not have parental rights. Then the frequency of selected parenting behaviours which are manifested by those people is presented. The results of the research prove that the respondents have imposed various duties on a stepmother, in particular the care of a stepchild. Only some of them were of the opinion that a child should be loved, socialized, treated with sympathy and support. The respondents related the role of a stepmother with the expectation that a surrogate mother will treat a stepchild the same as its real mother. At the same time, they admitted that they did not strictly adhere to those recommendations. The departures mainly were marked in relation to the socialization function performed by them.
