Celem artykułu jest opis i analiza myśli republikańskiej w konfrontacji ze współczesną polską rzeczywistością. Obecnie ważną kwestię stanowi rosnące zafascynowanie założeniami republikańskimi i doszukiwanie się w nich udziału w uzupełnianiu elementów myśli liberalnej oraz próby przekształcania istniejących aktualnie demokracji. Autorka prezentuje ideę republikańską wplecioną w całościową wizję społeczeństwa ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem roli obywatela w tworzeniu wspólnoty. Pokazuje także, w jaki sposób nieformalna edukacja dorosłych może przyczynić się do wzmacniana uczestnictwa w sferze publicznej i budowania tym samym stabilności demokratycznego ładu społecznego. Problematyka ta jest istotna z punktu widzenia określenia kierunku rozwoju współczesnej demokracji i społeczeństwa obywatelskiego.

The aim of this article is to describe and analyze the republican thought in the confrontation with contemporary Polish reality. Nowadays, an important issue constitutes the growing fascination with republican assumptions as well as discovering their contribution to completion of the elements of liberal thought and attempts to convert current democracies. The author presents the republican idea included in the overall vision of society with special emphasis on the role of the citizen in creating community. Additionally, it shows how informal adult education can amplify the participation in the public sphere, thereby leading to the stability of democratic social order. This issue is crucial for the determination of the direction of the development of modern democracy and civil society.
