Niniejszy artykuł jest krótką i bardzo wstępną informacją na temat monet hellenistycznych odkrytych podczas prac wykopaliskowych prowadzonych przez archeologów z Instytutu Archeologii UJ na agorze starożytnego Nea Pafos w latach 2011–2019. Pierwsze badania archeologiczne agory przeprowadził na przełomie lat 60. i 70. XX w. Kyriakos Nicolaou. Zespół archeologów z Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego pod kierownictwem Ewdoksji Papuci-Władyka rozpoczął eksplorację terenu agory w 2011 r. Podczas polskich wykopalisk znaleziono co najmniej 480 monet i krążków monetarnych. Znaczna część z nich (co najmniej 180 egzemplarzy) została wybita w okresie hellenistycznym. W skład tej grupy wchodzą głównie monety ptolemejskie (ponad 67%), ale także bite na Cyprze brązy typu Zeus/Zeus (20,5%), monety z regionu syro-palestyńskiego (Seleucydzi, Judea – ponad 6%), monety macedońsko-antygonidzkie (3,8%), monety z południowo-wschodniej części basenu Morza Egejskiego i Azji Mniejszej (1,6%) jak i inne. W artykule przedstawiono wstępne obserwacje dotyczące chronologii i struktury znalezisk.

The present article is a short and very preliminary report about the Hellenistic coins found during excavations conducted by the team of the Institute of Archaeology, Jagiellonian University at the agora of the ancient Nea Paphos in 2011–2019. The first archaeological research at the agora had been conducted in the late 1960s and 1970s by Kyriakos Nicolaou. The Jagiellonian University team, led by Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka started to explore the agora area in 2011. There were at least 480 coins and coin flans found during the Polish excavations. Great part of them are minted in the Hellenistic Period. The group consists mainly of Ptolemaic coins (over 67%), but includes also Cypriot bronzes of the Zeus/Zeus type (20.5%), coins of Syro-Palestinian region (Seleucid, Hasmonean rulers – over 6%), Macedonian-Antigonid issues (3.8%), the coins from south-eastern Aegean and Asia Minor (1.6%) as well as others. Some preliminary observations concerning chronology and structure of the finds are presented.

Archaeological excavations carried out by a mission from the Jagiellonian University Institute of Archaeology on the site of the agora of Nea Paphos in Cyprus brought to light a lead weight with a Greek inscription giving the year 251 of an era and mentioning an agoranomos with the name Seleukos. On the basis of parallels, the author demonstrates that the weight must have been issued by the North Syrian city of Seleucia in Pieria, and the era used in the inscription is the civic era of Seleucia with the starting point in 109/108 BC, which allows one to date the object to AD 142/143. He argues that the structure where the object was found can tentatively be identified as agoranomeion of Nea Paphos.

Berlin and the city’s inhabitants are the characters of Wanat’s reportage. The book is a collection of  talks and evidence record of meetings with particular people. Every Berliner has their own story.  While presenting the stories, the author spotlights the complexity of the city.The capital city, like any other metropolis, is a medley of various cultures and behaviours. The city reflects the borderline of the features which both unite  and divide the society and endanger their peaceful coexistence. The border areas are particularly exposed to conflicts. For onlookers, Berlin seems to be a coherent mosaic. However, it is drastically divided. This incoherence is shown in varied characters of the districts, it is reflected in language, too. Resentments, stereotypes and generalisations add to this discrepancy. A peaceful coexistence in such a cosmopolitan hybrid city requires building an agora and bridges. They create the background to begin a dialogue. Liberal democracy helps to introduce socio-cultural structures, as well as mental patterns of perception. This prevents antagonisms in society. A lesson of tolerance averts hostility and others are not treated as if they were strangers. Learning an appropriate attitude towards the dissimilar takes a long time, and the challenge must be repeatedly undertaken if society is to remain united. Analysing such a big city as Berlin, Ewa Wanat illustrates complex problems of contemporary Europe.

Coraz częściej zmiany zachodzące w funkcjonowaniu współczesnej nauki są postrzegane w kategoriach jej rozszerzania pod kątem obszarów zainteresowania, wielości i różnorodności zaangażowanych aktorów czy przekraczania granic dyscyplin. Równolegle do tych zmian pojawiają się pytania dotyczące tego, gdzie i w jaki sposób powstaje wiedza naukowa, a także problem dookreślenia kryterium naukowości. W artykule zostaną przedstawione wybrane koncepcje z zakresu studiów nad nauką i technologią, w których szczególną uwagę poświęca się przestrzeniom (fizycznym, organizacyjnym, kulturowym), w których ma powstawać wiedza uznawana za naukową. Ostatecznie, wydaje się, że to właśnie specjalny sposób organizacji działalności naukowej w specyficznych przestrzeniach stanowi obecnie jedną z podstaw dla odróżniania nauki od nienauki.

Along with these changes there arise questions concerning where and how exactly scientific knowledge emerges as well as the problem of defining the criteria of sciencehood. The article aims to present selected conceptions from the area of Science and Technology Studies; such ones which focus their attention to diverse spaces (of material, organisational and/or cultural kinds) in which supposedly scientific knowledge emerges. Altogether, it seems that these are both the organisational mode and the specific spaces that can currently serve as a basis for discerning science from nonscience.

The article discusses the role of the city in Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia by the philosopher Leszek Kołakowski, and in the animated film series Fourteen Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia by Leszek Kołakowski, which is an adaptation of the book. The article is written from the point of view of the originator of the adaptation and the screenwriter of all the films in the series. The author examines the historical and ideological context of L. Kołakowski’s writing the Tales … and analyzes the role of the city understood as the setting of the plot (topos) and the venue for an exchange of ideas (agora) and for the community (polis); he does so on three levels: that of the literary original, the screenplay adaptation, and the film. He also examines the role of the city in those senses for the drama of the individual films, the philosophical and esthetic premises of the role, and – in these contexts – the relations between the selected films and their screenplays.
