This article focuses on the relationship between text and image in Ernest Latham’s translation of ballad Miorița, published in the volume Miorița. An Icon of Romanian Culture that also contains photos of transhumance shepherds taken by Laurence Salzmann. The bimodal text is analysed from the perspective of Barthes’s notions of anchorage and relay, to establish the type of relation established between text and image in Latham’s and Salzmann’s work. In addition, dwelling on the concept of meaning multiplication, the research sets out to analyse the ways in which the transgressive forces that lead to the publication of the volume unite in the two different media used in the book to create greater value.
