The Monastery of the Discalced Carmelite nuns in Kraków on Grodzka Street was the first female foundation in Poland of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, reformed in the 16th century by St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross. The Discalced Carmelite nuns arrived in Kraków in 1612 and resided in their original abode until the monastery became dissolved in 1787. At that time, the documents of the monastery were transferred to the archives of the second monastery of the nuns of the same order in Kraków, that is, to the archives of the monastery of St Teresa of Jesus and St John of the Cross in the Wesoła district. The first attempt to inventory the holdings of this archive was made as early as 1961 by Professor Benignus Wanat, OCD. The creation of the now-published inventory was preceded by preliminary studies, focusing particularly on the order’s own regulations regarding the documentation produced and its archiving practices. The resource base of the archives of St Martin’s Monastery in Kraków consists of 190 archival units representing 12.5 linear meters of files. They are divided into 10 series reflecting the overall daily life of the community entirely devoted to asceticism and contemplation.

Klasztor karmelitanek bosych w Krakowie przy ul. Grodzkiej był pierwszą w Polsce żeńską fundacją zreformowanego w X VI wieku przez św. Teresę z Avila i św. Jana od Krzyża Zakonu Najświętszej Maryi Panny z Góry Karmel. Karmelitanki bose przybyły do Krakowa w 1612 roku i w pierwotnej lokalizacji zamieszkiwały aż do likwidacji klasztoru w 1787 roku. Wówczas jego dokumenty przeniesione zostały do archiwum drugiego klasztoru mniszek tej reguły w Krakowie, czyli do archiwum klasztoru pw. św. Teresy od Jezusa i św. Jana od Krzyża w dzielnicy Wesoła. Pierwszą próbę inwentaryzacji zasobu tego archiwum podjął już w 1961 roku prof. Benignus Wanat OCD. Powstanie obecnie publikowanego inwentarza poprzedziły studia wstępne zwłaszcza w zakresie prawa własnego Zakonu dotyczącego wytwarzanej dokumentacji oraz praktyk jej archiwizacji. Zasób archiwum klasztoru św. Marcina w Krakowie tworzy 190 jednostek archiwalnych stanowiących 12,5 metrów bieżących akt. Podzielone one zostały na 10 serii odzwierciedlających całokształt życia wspólnoty prowadzącej życie w całości poświęcone ascezie oraz kontemplacji.

The archive of the Capuchin monastery in Krosno dates back to the 18th century. The constantly growing archive resources, divided into 12 groups, rea-ched 128 archival units at the beginning of the 21st century. It is an open archive containing materials related to the religious life of the Capuchins, their pastoral, chari-table, social and cultural activities as well as documentation covering the activities of persons indirectly associated with the monastery. Part of the documents concerns property and renovation matters. The inventory was prepared in accordance with the norms of Polish church archives.

Archiwum klasztorów kapucynów w Krośnie swoimi początkami sięga XVIII w. Narastający ciągle zasób archiwalny, podzielony na 12 grup, w początkach XXI wieku sięgał 128 jednostek archiwalnych. Jest to archiwum otwarte, w którym znajdują się materiały związane z życiem zakonnym kapucynów, ich działalnością duszpasterską, charytatywną, społeczną i kulturalną oraz dokumentacja obejmująca działalność osób pośrednio związanych z konwentem. Część zasobu obejmuje sprawy majątkowe i remontowo budowlane. Inwentarz został sporządzony zgodnie z normami w polskiej archiwistyce kościelnej.
