The article discusses the history of the split of Prince Xavier of Saxony’s archive into three parts: a French (the Departmental Archives in Troyes), Polish (the Polish Library in Paris), and German one (the Saxon Main State Archive in Dresden). The article presents the successive stages of the scattering process throughout the 19th century and on the selected examples taken from the French and Polish historiography shows how the split of the collection aﬀected the state of research on the life of the Saxon Prince.

W artykule omówiono historię rozproszenia archiwum ks. Ksawerego Saskiego na trzy części – francuską (Archiwum Departamentalne w Troyes), polską (Biblioteka Polska w Paryżu) oraz niemiecką (Saskie Główne Archiwum Państwowe w Dreźnie). Przedstawiono kolejne etapy procesu rozproszenia w XIX w. oraz pokazano na przykładach konkretnych prac z francuskiej i polskiej historiografii, jak rozbicie zbioru wpłynęło na stan badań prowadzonych nad życiem saskiego księcia.

Artykuł jest omówieniem projektu badawczego, który zakłada przeprowadzenie badania otoczenia archiwów w Polsce i istniejących relacji pomiędzy archiwami a tym otoczeniem. Autorka stawia hipotezę badawczą, która zakłada, że wszystkie instytucje posiadają swoje wewnętrzne i zewnętrzne otoczenie, prezentuje stan wiedzy, przybliża koncepcję i plan badań, ich metodykę i założone efekty. Przeprowadzone badania pozwolą zdobyć wiedzę na temat archiwów jako instytucji, ich organizacji, zasad funkcjonowania, miejsca w społeczeństwie, a przede wszystkim na temat grup interesariuszy, z którymi archiwa stykają się w toku swej działalności, z dokładnym rozpoznaniem jakości zachodzących pomiędzy nimi relacji.

The article discusses a research project that intends to study the environment of archives in Poland and existing relations between archives and the environment. The Author formulates a research hypothesis that all institutions have their inside and outside environment; she presents the present knowledge of the subject, and introduces the concept and research schedule, its methodology and supposed effects. This research will allow to acquire knowledge of archives as institutions, of its organization, rules of functioning, place in society, and most of all – knowledge of groups of inquirers, which archives encounter during their activities, with detailed identification of quality of relations between them.

Przedmiotem edycji jest XIX-wieczny spis staropolskich akt sądów szlacheckich i akt miejskich autorstwa Erazma Goldmana, archiwisty w Archiwum Akt Dawnych w Piotrkowie. Dotychczas spis ten znany był jedynie pośrednio, przez publikację Adama Wolffa. Podczas drugiej wojny światowej zniszczeniu uległa większość akt staropolskich sądów szlacheckich i akt miast przechowywanych w warszawskim Archiwum Głównym Akt Dawnych. Wraz z archiwaliami spłonęły również powiązane z nimi pomoce archiwalne. W tej sytuacji Wolff opracowując wykaz strat w zasobie przedrozbiorowych akt sądowych i miejskich wykorzystał spis Goldmana jako podstawowe źródło informacji na temat zespołów akt, ich wewnętrznego podziału, dat granicznych. Spis powstał najprawdopodobniej pomiędzy powstał po 1843 a przed 1860 r. Podstawą do przygotowania edycji jest kopia spisu sporządzona w 1872 r. przez Goldmana na potrzeby historyka prawa Romualda Hubego. Goldman w oparciu, jak się wydaje, o sporządzane na potrzeby Komisji Rządowej Sprawiedliwości okresowe zestawienia zasobu poszczególnych archiwów akt dawnych. Stąd też podział materiału według archiwów a następnie według staropolskich powiatów sądowych. Dalej wykazane są akta sądów grodzkich i ziemskich z podziałem na serie oraz podaniem dat granicznych oraz ilością ksiąg. W przypadku akt miejskich Goldman wymienił jedynie miasta których akta znalazły się w danym archiwum akt dawnych.

This edition concerns the 19th-century inventory of Old-Polish noble courts records and municipal records created by Erazm Goldman, an archivist in the Archives of Historical Records in Piotrków. Until now the inventory has been known only indirectly, through Adam Wolff’s publication. During World War II most of Old-Polish judicial and municipal records stored in the Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw were destroyed. Along with archival materials, also finding aids burnt down. In this situation Wolff, preparing a list of losses of pre-partition juducial and municipal records, used the Goldman’s inventory as a fundamental source about the fonds, their internal division and dates. The inventory was created probably between 1843 and 1860. The ground for this edition is a copy of the inventory made in 1872 by Goldman for a legal historian Romuald Hube. It seems that Goldman worked using lists of holdings of particular archives of historical records, produced periodically for the Governmental Committee for Justice. This resulted in dividing materials according to archives and Old-Polish judicial districts. Later the inventory enlists records of municipal courts and provincial courts, divided into series, with dates and numbers of books. In case of municipal records Goldman listed only these towns, which records were stored in a particular archives of historical records.

The purpose of the article is to provide a detailed description of Stężyca court of justice for nobility registers from the years 1564-1792. In the 19th century they were moved to Warsaw, where in 1944 they burned down during the fire at the Central Archive of Historical Records (AGAD). In this aspect, the article is a contribution to expanding the knowledge of AGAD’s archival losses during the Second World War. Despite complete destruction of Stężyca court of justice for nobility registers, intermediate sources have survived, providing an insight into their historical stock. Their inventory, prepared in 1792 and published in an appendix to this article, is of great value for studying the Stężyca court of justice for nobility registers.

Celem artykułu jest szczegółowe opisanie ksiąg grodzkich stężyckich z lat 1564–1792. W XIX stuleciu zostały przeniesione do Warszawy, gdzie później spaliły się w 1944 r. podczas pożaru Archiwum Głównego Akt Dawnych. W tym aspekcie artykuł jest przyczynkiem do poszerzenia wiedzy o stratach archiwalnych AGAD podczas II wojny światowej. Mimo całkowitego zniszczenia ksiąg grodzkich stężyckich, zachowały się źródła pośrednie, umożliwiające wgląd w ich historyczny zasób. Wielką wartość dla poznania ksiąg stężyckich ma ich spis z 1792 r. znajdujący się na końcu niniejszego artykułu.

Opublikowana w 2016 r. monografia Marleny Jabłońskiej Nowe wyzwania archiwów. Komunikacja społeczna i public relations, może zainteresować nie tylko archiwistów, będących jej głównymi adresatami, lecz także bibliotekarzy. Stanowi ona modelową propozycję ukazania komunikacji społecznej i public relations w całokształcie działań realizowanych przez archiwa, jako filozofii zarządzania, która powinna pozwolić na poprawę ich funkcjonowania i zmianę odbioru społecznego na znacznie lepszy. Zaproponowane rozwiązania mogą być wykorzystane w praktyce, oczywiście traktowane elastycznie i odpowiednio dostosowane do konkretnego archiwum, jego zasobu i potrzeb. To nowe spojrzenie na archiwa doskonale wpisuje się w przeobrażenia, jakie zachodzą w ostatnich latach w archiwach i ich otoczeniu. Rewolucja technologiczna, a zwłaszcza postępująca otwartość archiwów wymuszają zmiany w ich funkcjonowaniu i sięganie po coraz doskonalsze narzędzia zarządzania, z powodzeniem stosowane już przez pokrewne instytucje, w tym biblioteki. Praca została napisana ładnym, żywym językiem, miejscami nawet bardzo emocjonalnie. Świadczy to o zaangażowaniu autorki i jej przekonaniu o dużej wartości poruszanych kwestii i formułowanych propozycji. Trudne dla archiwistów kwestie zarządcze przedstawia w sposób jasny i zrozumiały. Treść wzbogacają liczne rysunki i tabele, które zostały opracowane przez autorkę. Stanowią doskonałą ilustrację przedstawianych zagadnień i ułatwiają lepsze zrozumienie wniosków i podsumowań. Książka została starannie przygotowana i opublikowana przez Wydawnictwo Naukowe UMK, które otrzymało za nią wyróżnienie w konkursie Stowarzyszenia Wydawców Szkół Wyższych w 2017 r.

The monograph Nowe wyzwania archiwów. Komunikacja społeczna i public relations by Marlena Jabłońska published in 2016 may attract the interest of not only archivists, but also librarians. It constitutes a model to show social communication and public relations as the philosophy of management in the context of activities carried out by archives, which should improve the archives’ work and change their social reception. The solutions suggested here may be used in practice; they should be treated with flexibility and adjusted to a given archive, its resources and needs. This new outlook on the archives overlaps with the changes that have been taking place in the archives in the recent years. Technological revolution entails modifications in the archives’ work, using more and more modern management tools, which have already been successfully employed by other institutions, including libraries. The monograph was written with a vivid and emotional language, which is the evidence of the author’s involvement in the subject matter and the proposals she puts forward. The management issues, so difficult for archivists, have been presented in a clear and transparent manner. The monograph also includes a number of drawings and tables prepared by the author. They illustrate the issues addressed in the monograph and make it easier to understand the conclusions. The books was carefully prepared and published by Wydawnictwo Naukowe UMK [the Scientific Publishing House of Nicolaus Copernics University], which received a distinction in the competition organized by the Association of Higher Education Publishers in 2017.

Die 2016 veröffentlichte Monografie Marlena Jabłońskas unter dem Titel „Nowe wyzwania archiwów. Komunikacja społeczna i public relations“ [„Die neuen Herausforderungen für die Archive. Die soziale Kommunikation und Publicrelations“] kann nicht nur für die Archivarinnen und Archivare, die ihre Hauptempfänger sind, sondern auch für die Bibliothekarinnen und Bibliothekare aufschlussreich sein. Sie ist ein vorbildlicher Vorschlag, um die soziale Kommunikation und Publicrelations im Zusammenhang mit allen Aufgaben der Archive zu schildern. Es ist eine Verwaltungsphilosophie, die es erlauben sollte, ihre Funktionsweise zu verbessern und die soziale Rezeption positiv zu beeinflussen. Die vorgeschlagenen Lösungen können in der Praxis genutzt werden, selbstverständlich flexibel betrachtet und entsprechend gut angepasst an ein bestimmtes Archiv, an seinen Bestand und seine Bedürfnisse. Dieser neue Blick auf die Archive entspricht sehr gut dem Wandel der Archive und ihrem Milieu in den letzten Jahren. Die technologische Revolution, insbesondere aber die immer größere Offenheit der Archive, erzwingen die Änderungen in ihrer Tätigkeit und die Verwendung immer besserer Verwaltungswerkzeuge, die bereits von verwandten Institutionen, darunter den Bibliotheken erfolgreich verwendet werden. Die Arbeit wurde in einer schönen, lebendigen Sprache verfasst, manchmal sogar sehr emotional. Das zeugt vom Engagement der Autorin und ihrer Überzeugung vom großen Wert der angesprochenen Fragen und formulierten Vorschläge. Die für die Archivare schwierigen Verwaltungsfragen schildert sie klar und verständlich. Den Inhalt bereichern zahlreiche Abbildungen und Tabellen, die von der Autorin bearbeitet wurden. Sie sind eine gute Bestätigung der erläuterten Fragen und erleichtern das Verständnis von Schlussfolgerungen und Zusammenfassungen. Das Buch wurde sorgfältig vorbereitet und veröffentlicht vom Wissenschaftlichen Verlag der Nikolaus-Kopernikus-Universität in Thorn, der dafür 2017 eine Auszeichnung im Wettbewerb des Verlegervereins der Hochschulen erhielt.
