The article refers to the aspects of the diagnostic research related to the professional development of art teachers of public schools in Białystok and Białostockie District and autobiographical research of the educators who combine their own artistic work with their pedagogical work. The subject of the analysis was the creative artistic activity of visual education teachers as an important area of their professional development. The first part of the article provides the theoretical basis for the research. The concepts of the professional competence of visual arts teachers adopted by the author were indicated. Next part of the article presents the methodological basis based on own research. An analysis of the essential elements, such as the objectives of research, applied research method and research tools, was of test procedure was carried out. A description of the sample research, time and area of research was provided. A large part of the article is devoted to the presentation of the research results on the creative artistic activity of visual education teachers as a field of professional development. The fields and conditions of creative artistic activity of visual education teachers were presented. In conclusion, the results of the research were presented and were confronted with other researches on the profession of art teacher and arts education

The aim of this article – which is based on a broadly defined grounded theory – is to describe a range of evaluative situations based on a teacher’s initiative in art lessons given at the lower secondary level of schools. The article presents a range of evaluative situations in art lessons followed by four general approaches by which teachers cope with assessment.
