The aim of the article is to show the needs of elderly people concerning residential environment and deprivations in that sphere. The deprivations will be presented in the light of the concept of environmental stress, and they regard to architectural barriers, lack of infrastructure and social support experienced by senior citizens. In turn, the seniors’ needs regarding residential environment will be illustrated by typology of causes of staying in present place of residence till the end of their lives. The needs which senior citizens want to satisfy in their habitat as well as experienced barriers, discomforts and stresses will be pictured by quotes of elderly inhabitants of housing estates in Upper Silesia, interviewed within the researches conducted by the author of the article as a member of research teams.
