The paper presents the results of an explorative study of the process of auditoroversight by audit committees. The study covered audit committees of public companieslisted in WIG20 and WIG40 index on Warsaw Stock Exchange. The researchhas found that the auditor oversight process, which has for many years hada rather ceremonial character, shows a new trend towards professionalization ofaudit committee activities.

Celem opracowania jest przedstawienie wyników badań eksploracyjnych dotyczącychpracy komitetu audytu, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem relacji i zakresu współpracymiędzy tym komitetem a biegłym rewidentem. Przedmiotem badania byłyspółki zaufania publicznego notowane na GPW w Warszawie, zaliczane do WIG20i WIG40. Analiza zebranych danych pozwala na stwierdzenie, że można zaobserwowaćzmianę w dotychczasowych praktykach oraz przesunięcie się charakteru współpracyz ceremonialnego na bardziej profesjonalny.
