The subject of reflections in this article is the phenomenon of topographic imagination of Sławomir Mrożek. Tracking traces of autobiographical places in the writer’s works, the author attempts to explain the reasons for his little interest in the geographic concrete as a literary material as well as to answer the question what functions these places fulfill in "Dziennik powrotu" [A Journal of Return] and "Baltazar. Autobiografia" [Balthasar. Autobiography]. In her opinion, both the scarce presence of autobiographic places in the earlier works of Mrożek, as well as their appearance in the works referred to, remains in connection with the problem of the identity of the writer, who throughout most of his life struggled with the sense of non-existence, and after the stroke he had to redefine himself and his place in the world.

In this article journeys to autobiographical places of the selected writers (Andrzej Stasiuk, Egon Bondy, Ondra Łysohorsky) are interpreted as a form of intensified reading of their works. Travel texts (written by Jáchym Topol, Jacek Podsiadło and Bogdan Trojak) resulting from such a sensual reading naturally refer to both pretexts as well as biographies of the authors visited. It is not important if the travellers meet these authors in person or not. The ways of moving in space are simultaneously cognitive figures of the texts created: deviation from the mainstream of the journey becomes visible both in the digressive nature of the narration as well as in the multiple intertextual connections.

The subject of the article is Sarmatia in the geopoetical perspective. Lithuanian reminiscences is Bobrowski’s literary output in the context of his concept of Sarmatia, with a special attention towards Lithuanian motives. The writer referred to the vast areas of Central and Eastern Europe from Berlin to the Urals as Sarmatia, and he defined his poetic task as the study of the Germans' transgressions against their eastern neighbours. According to geopoetics, Sarmatia is a place made up of personal experiences, feelings and emotions. Research on the autobiography conducted by M. Czermińska allows us to call it an autobiographical place created out of landscape, history and tradition. The writer himself described East Prussia as a place of childhood and happiness, but he also felt fulfilled as a wanderer on the great expanses of Eastern Europe.

Artykuł jest rekonesansem badawczym, który próbuje rozpoznać zagadnienie przestrzeni w prozie Zygmunta Haupta. Polemizuje on z tezą o dominującym charakterze kategorii temporalnych w obrębie tego pisarstwa i kreśli ramy kartografii literackiej opartej na charakteryzowanych tu mechanizmach postrzegania przestrzeni. Kartografia ta operuje ciągłym napięciem pomiędzy terytoriami doświadczonymi i egzotycznymi, pomiędzy fizycznością miejsca i geografią wyobrażoną, pomiędzy świadomością będącą zewnętrznym narzędziem poznania a samounicestwianiem się „ja” na rzecz przestrzeni. Kartograficzna działalność Haupta koncentruje się przede wszystkim na trzech rodzajach miejsc autobiograficznych, projektujących, po doświadczeniu wielkich zamierzeń literackich modernizmu, przestrzeń kameralną, dostosowaną do możliwości poznawczych i kreacyjnych jednostki.

The article is a research reconnaissance that attempts to address the problem of space in Zygmunt Haupt’s prose. It polemicizes with the thesis of the dominant character of temporal categories in this writing and draws the frame of literary cartography based on the mechanisms of space perception that are described here. This cartography operates with a constant tension between the experienced and the exotic territories, between the physicality of the place and the imagined geography, between consciousness that is an external tool of cognition and the self-annihilation of the “I” for space. Haupt’s cartographic activity focuses primarily on three types of autobiographical places, which, after experiencing the great literary goals of modernism, delimit a cosy space adapted to the cognitive and creative capabilities of an individual.
