The article asks what Czech Studies in Poland, what the research direction is, and what its foundations and perspectives are. Whether the aim of such research is merely to coordinate in some way a group of researchers operating on the interface between the interests of Czech and Polish studies, or whether the goal has a greater scientific and social range. Whether its aim is to participate in the resolution of the general problems appearing at the start of the 21st century both in science and the society in which the science develops. The author emphasizes the central task – to gain a deeper and multifaceted understanding of the neighbouring nation, in this case to achieve an understanding of Czechs, the Czech past and the tendencies of current development (whilst overcoming lingering heterostereotypes) from the part of Poles. From this aspect there is an evaluation of the possibilities of historiography and other humanities in the context of the Central European area (asymmetrical nature of mutual relations, differing intensity of interest and research in different countries, choice of fundamental themes, specific status of “cultural ambassadors”, role of the Polish minority in the Czech Republic, etc.). The author comes to the conclusion that the results of an interdisciplinary approach to this theme could help bring the two nations together and lead to an exemplary elimination of some strains and conflicts in (Central) Europe of the 21st century.
