The paper introduces the classification of family functions adequate to the situation of a child in foster care in reference to traditional classifications of family functions. Next, the results of the empirical research carried out on the basis of this theoretical proposal are presented. The research consisted of qualitative interviews supplemented by a quantitative study. Research shows that biological parents are often not actually involved in childcare. The biological family is involved only to a small extent in correcting mistakes and building relationships, which is not consistent with the assumptions of the new foster care system.

W artykule zaprezentowana jest klasyfikacja funkcji rodziny adekwatna do sytuacji dziecka znajdującego się w pieczy zastępczej w odwołaniu do tradycyjnych klasyfikacji. Następnie przedstawione są wyniki dotychczasowych badań empirycznych przeprowadzonych na bazie tej propozycji teoretycznej. Badania składały się z wywiadów jakościowych uzupełnionych o badanie ilościowe. Badania wykazują, że rodzice biologiczni często nie są w praktyce włączeni w opiekę nad dzieckiem. Rodzina biologiczna w małym stopniu uczestniczy w naprawianiu błędów oraz budowaniu więzi, co nie jest zgodne z założeniami nowego systemu pieczy.

The article contains an analysis of German empirical research on the transition from the education system to the labor market. It reflects the specificity of the German discourse on this issue, which results from the empirically grounded belief in the lifelong durability of the relationship between the origin and social status of an individual and their chance for a successful life career, including effective transition from one system to onother. A characteristic feature of this discourse is the shift towards the issues of social inequalities, especially inequality of opportunities, educational poverty and ineffectiveness of social and educational policies, especially activities of educational and other institutions aimed at equal opportunities.

Artykuł zawiera analizę niemieckich badań empirycznych nad tranzycją z systemu edukacji na rynek pracy. Oddaje on specyfikę niemieckiego dyskursu nad tą problematyką, która wynika z empirycznie ugruntowanego przekonania o całożyciowej trwałości relacji pomiędzy pochodzeniem i statusem społecznym jednostki a jej szansą na pomyślną karierę życiową, w tym efektywne tranzycje z jednego systemu do drugiego. Cechą charakterystyczną tego dyskursu jest zwrot ku problematyce nierówności społecznych, zwłaszcza nierówności szans, ubóstwa edukacyjnego i nieskuteczności polityki socjalnej i oświatowej oraz działań instytucji edukacyjnych i innych na rzecz wyrównania szans.
