What is the Purpose of Assessment at the University – about the Goals and Characteristics of Assessment from the Students’ Perspective

The study presents considerations related to functions of evaluation at a university. Initial questions about the possibility of facing the tasks of evaluation in the context determined by: established assessment practices, changes related to the implementation of PRK, pedagogical theory (formative vs summation assessment) were resolved by means of a survey conducted among students. Students’ statements on, i.a., the readability of the assessing system and determining its criteria, relevance/randomness, averaging ratings in the Final Module Evaluation (OKM), processual features of evaluation, lead to the conclusion that students can appreciate the measurability of summative assessment (e.g. of test exam), but also they submit postulates to provide the verification with the features of formative assessment that supports their learning.

W opracowaniu przedstawiono rozważania związane z funkcjami oceniania w uczelni wyższej. Początkowe pytania o możliwości sprostania zadaniom ewaluacji w kontekście wyznaczanym przez utrwalone praktyki oceniania, zmiany związane z wdrażaniem PRK, a także przez teorię pedagogiczną (ocenianie kształtujące vs sumujące) rozstrzygnięto za pomocą badania sondażowego przeprowadzonego wśród studentów. Ich wypowiedzi, na temat m.in. czytelności systemu oceniania i ustalania jego kryteriów, trafności/przypadkowości, uśredniania ocen w OKM oraz procesualnych cech ewaluacji, prowadzą do wniosku, że studiujący potrafią docenić mierzalność oceniania sumującego (np. egzaminów testowych), ale też zgłaszają postulaty, by wyposażyć weryfikację w cechy oceniania kształtującego, wspierającego ich uczenie się.

Realizowane na terenie miast inwestycje często nie są wystarczające dla stale rosnących wymagań społeczności miejskich. Wykorzystując badanie sondażowe (przeprowadzone techniką ankiety) postanowiono sprawdzić, które typy terenów miejskich wymagają – zdaniem mieszkańców 26 dawnych miast przemysłowych Regionu Wschodniego – największego doinwestowania. Respondenci (ponad 2,5 tys. osób) dokonali identyfikacji potrzeb inwestycyjnych w kontekście rewitalizacji obszarów funkcjonalno-przestrzennych poszczególnych miast. Zastosowane postępowanie badawcze może zostać wykorzystane jako uzupełniająca (weryfikująca) metoda identyfikacji potrzeb inwestycyjnych na etapie diagnozowania stanu miasta oraz w celu monitorowania procesu rewitalizacji dowolnego ośrodka miejskiego. Badanie sondażowe, w fazie konsultacji społecznych projektów rewitalizacyjnych, pozwala na realizację założeń Krajowej Polityki Miejskiej, iż w pierwszej kolejności powinny być zrealizowane te etapy inwestycji, które przyniosą najbardziej odczuwalne dla mieszkańców korzyści. Odpowiednio przygotowane narzędzie badawcze dostarcza jednocześnie wielu informacji, które mogą być pomocne przy likwidowaniu barier rozwoju lokalnego (np. niewystarczającej dostępności, jakości, estetyki i bezpieczeństwa przestrzeni miejskich).

Investments made in the area of cities/towns are often not enough for constantly increasing requirements of urban communities. Due to survey research, it was verified which types of urban areas require the largest number of additional investments in the opinion of inhabitants of 26 former industrial cities/towns in the Eastern Region. Respondents (over 2.500) identified investment needs in the context of revitalisation of functional areas in individual cities. The applied research procedure may be used as a supplementary (verifying) method for identification of investment needs at the stage of diagnosing a state of a city/town and for monitoring the process of revitalisation of any city area. The survey research, in the phase of consultations of social revitalisation projects, allows fulfilling objectives of National Urban Policy. It states that the investments bringing the most notice able benefits for inhabitants should be completed at first. A well-prepared research tool provides, at the same time, much information that may be useful when eliminating barriers of local development (e.g. insufficient availability and quality, aesthetics and security of urban space).

Umiejętność uczenia się jako jedna z kompetencji kluczowych – perspektywa nauczycieli języków obcych

Tematem artykułu jest umiejętność uczenia się ujęta jako kompetencja kluczowa, analizowana w kontekście realizacji przez nauczycieli języków obcych założeń polityki europejskiej i uregulowań polskich w tym zakresie. Opracowanie zawiera wyniki badania sondażowego, którego celem było poznanie opinii i postaw respondentów w zakresie kształtowania kompetencji uczenia się języków ich uczniów. Wyniki pokazują, że choć zdecydowana większość nauczycieli uznaje ten aspekt za ważny i deklaruje jego uwzględnianie w planowaniu i organizowaniu zajęć, ich wiedza na ten temat jest bardzo nieuporządkowana i raczej fragmentaryczna. Niewiele wypowiedzi ankietowanych wskazuje na całościowe postrzeganie problemu i świadomą organizację procesu uczenia się i nauczania w tym obszarze.

The article discusses the ability to learn as a key competence analysed in the context of the implementation of the assumption of the European policy and Polish regulations in this regard by foreign language teachers. The study contains results of poll research aimed at verifying the opinions and attitudes of respondents related to their influence on the language learning competencies of their students. Results show that although the definite majority of teachers find this aspect to be important and declare that they take it into account when planning and organising classes, their knowledge on the matter is not structured and rather fragmentary. Few responses of research subjects indicate a holistic perception of the matter and conscious organisation of the learning and teaching process in this regard.
