Artykuł jest próbą analizy działalności instytucji muzealnych, ich ewolucji i roli, jaką pełniły na przestrzeni dziejów. Porusza zagadnienia dotyczące ich pierwotnych założeń sięgających czasów starożytnych, aż po współczesne – przełamujące stereotypowe struktury, formy i funkcje tych instytucji. Pragnę zaakcentować w nim potrzebę ustawicznego edukowania społeczeństwa na takim poziomie, by mogło ono przyswajać ambitną ofertę, którą kierują do nas jednostki muzealne, a jednocześnie przybliżyć aspekt nowatorskich projektów skierowanych do wąskich grup osób dysfunkcyjnych. Inspiracją stała się dla mnie działalność Muzeum Królikarnia, będącego filią Muzeum Narodowego w Warszawie.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the activities of museums, their evolution, and the role that they played throughout history. The article discusses their founding principles, stretching back to antiquity, and examines modern approaches that overcome the stereotypical structures, forms and functions of these institutions. I wish to emphasise the need to educate the public in such a way that would enable it to digest and appreciate the ambitious programs that museums offer. I also want to shed light on innovative projects aimed at persons with disabilities. The work of the Królikarnia Museum, which is a subsidiary of the National Museum in Warsaw, was a particular inspiration.
