The paper presents a historical perspective of selected concepts of utilitarian value in the economic sciences. Contemporary approaches to utilitarian value represented in marketing and commodities science are also discussed. Using the example of various types of mineral water, an attempt is made to illustrate that the consumer benefits are the main determinant of their utility. To this end, the results of empirical research designed by the author on a national scale are used.
