Dear Readers! Responding to the questions and suggestions expressed by those of you who have been reading and appreciating “Ochrona Zabytków” for years now, we have decided to prepare a bibliographical issue presenting the contents of our magazine published in the period 1948-2010. The bibliography lists the contents of all issues of our periodical, starting from the very beginning, to date. Previously, we published “Ochrona Zabytków” bibliographies in the form of loose prints attached to issues opening new publishing periods. Such a form of inserts added to “Ochrona Zabytków” was employed for publishing bibliographies for the years 1948-1963, 1964-1970, 1971-1977, 1978-1985, 1986-1995 and 1996-2002. The bibliography for the years 2003-2010 is published for the first time. Interestingly, no bibliographical list was published when our institution operated under the name of the National Centre for Historical Monument Studies and Documentation. Now, we offer an opportunity to become thoroughly acquainted with the contents of “Ochrona Zabytków” published over that time. The scientific, research, conservation and restoration achievements touched upon in the articles published in “Ochrona Zabytków” over the past 64 years constitute a presentation of thousands of wonderful monuments by hundreds of outstanding authors. Therefore, the bibliographical edition is supplemented with an index of persons, as well as a geographical index covering the years 1948-2010. The index of persons includes the names of authors and individuals appearing in article titles. The geographical index, in turn, includes geographical names listed in article titles. We have retained the bibliographical structure presented in the previous publications. Furthermore, within the framework of editorial works, we have standardized the classification of articles, as well as consolidated the titles from all publishing periods within the individual sections. It is our hope that the bibliographical issue of our magazine will gain your recognition, and will prove to be a useful tool in your work. On this occasion, we would like to remind you that the catalogue of the library of the National Heritage Board of Poland, containing an extensive and diverse list of publications concerning all areas of the conservation and historical monument studies, history of arts and the related disciplines, has been made available on-line on 1 April 2011 at www.nid.pl. It includes bibliographical descriptions of books and magazines along with their resources, articles published in periodicals and books, electronic documents received by the library after 1992, as well as selected earlier publications. It is successively supplemented with descriptions relating to the period before 1992. By the end of 2011, the Internet version of the catalogue has been used by 4,282 persons. I strongly encourage you to become acquainted with the bibliographical issue. Furthermore, I would like to take this opportunity to recommend the next, jubilee issue of “Ochrona Zabytków”, prepared in connection with this year’s 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Historical Monument Documentation Centre whose mission has now been taken over by the National Heritage Board of Poland. “Orzeł Biały” [“The White Eagle”] was issued in Bychawa, in the period 1925–1926, as the continuation of “Nowa Jutrzenka” [“The New Morning Star”] which circulated between 1908 and 1924. The founder, editor and publisher of both these periodicals was the priest (Fr) Antoni Kwiatkowski, a meritorious social and educational, publicist and devoted priest. “Orzeł Biały” came out regularly as a weekly in a modest graphic layout and small volume. Some of its folios were multi-thematic brochures, others were illustrated. The periodical contained articles reflecting the current problems of local community. The subjects were mainly religious, social and educational, as well as those concerning the state and the nation. The editor took some information from books and press, included quotations and reprints. The analysis is supplemented with the bibliography of contents.

„Orzeł Biały” był wydawany w Bychawie w latach 1925–1926, jako kontynuacja „Nowej Jutrzenki” ukazującej się od 1908 roku do 1924 roku. Oba tygodniki założył, redagował i wydawał ksiądz Antoni Kwiatkowski, zasłużony działacz społeczny i oświatowy, publicysta, oddany duszpasterz. „Orzeł Biały” wychodził regularnie, w skromnej szacie graficznej i niewielkiej objętości. Część zeszytów miała charakter wielotematycznej broszury, niektóre były wzbogacone ilustracjami. Na łamach czasopisma prezentowano artykuły będące odbiciem bieżących problemów społeczności lokalnej, głównie o tematyce religijnej, społecznej, oświatowej, państwowej i narodowej. Niektóre informacje redaktor pozyskiwał z książek i prasy, zamieszczał cytaty i przedruki. Uzupełnieniem analizy jest dołączona bibliografia zawartości.
