Żywność funkcjonalna to wiodący obecnie trend w produkcji żywności. W artykule scharakteryzowano żywność funkcjonalną, jej podział i rolę w diecie. Podano rodzaje składników bioaktywnych i przedstawiono przyczyny wzbogacania żywności. Wymieniono przykłady żywności funkcjonalnej oraz jej znaczenie w turystyce i sporcie. Opisano trendy w produkcji i rozwoju tego rodzaju żywności, w tym innowacyjne możliwości jej projektowania.

Functional food is the currently leading trend in food production. The article characterized the functional food, its division and role in the diet. The types of bioactive components are given and the reasons for enriching food are presented. Examples of functional foods and its significance in tourism and sport are listed. Trends in the production and development of functional foods have been described, including innovative design options.
